The governor of Kansas just stole the Chiefs from Missouri. And now the Kansas City Chiefs, who have played in Missouri since 1963, are moving to Kansas. But the way that the state of Kansas stole the Chiefs from Missouri is kind of shady, but also genius at the same time. Because for quite some time now, the state of Kansas has been trying to get the Chiefs to come over and build on their land. But today, lawmakers in Kansas just approved something called Star Bonds. And normally this would be left to a big vote amongst the people, like a democracy.

They said, fuck that. We're going to just do it ourselves. And they approved it. And by the way, if you want more takes that ESPN doesn't give you, please consider following. But what's going to happen is that the state of Kansas is going to issue these Star Bonds to the Chiefs, which are essentially just loans, up to 70% of the new stadium. And these loans that the state is giving will be paid back by all of the sales tax generated

inside of this district once it is built and fully operated. So if you go to a Chiefs game in Kansas, buy them a Holmes jersey, that sales tax is helping pay for the stadium. And nobody in the state of Kansas pays any extra tax unless you go to a game. And this is actually a very crucial detail because last year in Missouri, they actually voted on a sales tax increase that would help pay for renovations at Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri. And this vote also included an entirely new ballpark for the Royals. The

people of Jackson County Missouri said, hell no, we are not doing that. And in came the state of Kansas saying, hold my beer, we're going to get this across the finish line. Except for the fact that they just bypassed the democracy completely, but they still got it done. But the Chiefs will stay at Arrowhead Stadium through the 2030 season and will move to Kansas in 2031. And as of the latest news, they're speculating that the new stadium will be about 31 minutes away from Arrowhead Stadium here. So the Chiefs currently play in Kansas City, Missouri, and will be moving state and county lines to technically still Kansas City.
