There's a pool in WA where no one's allowed to swim, a lifeguard shortage delaying the opening of Kununurra's brand new aquatic centre.Locals left with little choice but to cool off in crocodile country.

For the past two years, this has been where Kununurra locals go to swim.

We miss having a black line, a lane rope.not having to dodge crocodiles in the river here.

While adults have braved the croc infested Ord River, many children haven't.Instead, some families are driving a 200 kilometre round trip to Wyndham for the nearest public pool.

Not one single kid has been down to swim with us in the river over the last two years.

The opening of the new 50 metre pool at the Kununurra Aquatic and Leisure Centre delayed for months.One reason, a national shortage of lifeguards.

So we're looking for about We've got maybe half a dozen more casual lifeguards to join our team and one or two full -time people in a more supervisor leadership role.

It's a problem across the country.

WA is sitting just under 2000.It's estimated that we're probably around 20 to 25 % short.

The $14 .5 million aquatic centre now expected to open in September.

It's the first 50 -metre Olympic -sized swimming pool in the Kimberley, which is just incredible for our community.
