The Real Reason This US Senator Wants Canadians Back

Hello everybody, welcome back.I hope your day is starting off just great.You know, we Canadians have achieved something remarkable.Who would have thought a year ago that just a small act of patriotism and pride would help achieve so much?But here we are a year later, and those small acts, multiplied millions of times over, have achieved something that no one thought was possible.

Peter Welch is a Democratic senator for Vermont.Sir, thank you for coming on the show.I appreciate it.We mentioned there that 40 % drop -off in tourism to Vermont.How much of that is directly tied to Canadians not traveling to your state?

basically 100 percent.I mean that's what it did.Our main tourism is the Canadians.

Our main tourism is Canadian and our main tourism is down 40 percent because Canadians are choosing Canada.Now this is a politician from the United States appeared interviewed on CBC and he of course is desperate for Canadian tourists to come back to his state so he tried to make his case.

But you know there's another part of this that's really heartbreaking for us in Vermont.It's the emotional rupture.We have many of our bed and breakfasts, our ski areas, they look forward to Canadian families coming back and many of them would always come on a certain holiday and there is a lot of joy.

Oh, there goes the bullshit buzzer.When he said there's a lot of joy missing in Vermont, what he meant to say was there's a lot of money missing in Vermont.And the emotional rupture he's talking about is Americans feeling emotionally ruptured that their wallets aren't full of our money anymore.And this is starting to make more and more headlines in the United States.Little Canada, that Americans never talk about, is appearing in the news now.A lot.

Reported here in the New Republic, the idiots America is losing billions thanks to Canadian boycott.The idiots constant attacks on Canada are hurting the American economy in more ways than one.Unfortunately, they got the headline wrong.It's notthe idiots America, it's Americans America.But Americans were stupid enough to elect the idiot.

The Washington Post is reporting on Canada in this article July 28th.Canadian visits to the United States plummet amid the idiots tariffs and 51st state talks.Canadian travel sentiment shifted abruptly after the idiot returned to office.The Washington Post is reporting on little irrelevant Canada?That country that the United States doesn't need anything from?Well Axios is reporting on Canada as well in this article July 27th.

Canadians travel pullback costs U .S.tourism billions.It seems that Americans are only passionate about an issue when it starts costing them money.Drop a tomahawk missile on that school and kill 120 kids?No problem.

But if it costs me more to fill my car up with gas, all hell's gonna break loose.And now that Canadian visits to the United States have dropped an estimated 42%, according to a University of Toronto study tracking mobile data, representing millions of fewer visits from Canadians into the United States, millions multiplied by however much money those Canadians would have spent, millions multiplied by another number equaling billions of dollars, Now it's an issue for the United States.Now they're missing the joy of our visits and they talk about the emotional rupture.When the bottom line is, reported here in The Guardian, Canadians don't want to come here anymore.Anger over the idiot squeezes U .S.

border businesses.Squeezes is a U .S.word which translates into making a lot less money off Canadians.And to this day, there's still many Americans that really don't understand why.So let's look at some headlines from overseas.

Say, the BBC.What do they say about why some travelers are avoiding the U .S.?Because the United States is now viewed asa hostile state. I

I guess a country that has a president that threatens to annex you through the use of economic warfare could be considered hostile.Do Canadians hate the U .S.now?Well, let's hear what Americans hear on their own news now.

Donald Trump has managed to pull a wonderful magical, wonderful magic trick that is take an ally, a longtime ally like Canada, and all of a sudden, Canadians, they hate, hate, hate the United States of America.I mean, just take a look at the net favorable rating trend line here from before when Trump before took office the second time plus 13 points.Look at that drop now, that's a nearly 50 point drop.Now Canadians have a minus 33 net favorable view of the United States, inside out, round and round, upside down, Diana Ross.

But in the face of this, reported in Axios, border states beg Canadians to return as the idiot antagonizes America's neighbor.And just to point out this American report, they spelled neighbor wrong.Now I guess some Americans have no shame and they're perfectly willing to beg when they want your money.The complete opposite of when they're arrogantly threatening you about how powerful they are when they want to take you over.Now while we Canadians have been busy choosing Canada this summer instead of going to visit the United States, U .S.

lawmakers have been really busy putting together a report on the issue.Through data and new testimonials shared directly with the Joint Economic Committee minority, this report details reductions in Canadian tourism and the impact on local businesses in every state that borders Canada.In Alaska, border crossings for passenger vehicles from Canada were down 10%.In Idaho, border crossings were down more than 27%.In Maine, border crossings were down 25%.In Michigan, border crossings were down 11%.

In Minnesota, crossings down nearly 19%.Montana saw 19 % fewer crossings.In New Hampshire, a state that borders Quebec, border crossings were30%.Because we are Quebecker, so fuck you.In New York, border crossings were down 17%.

North Dakota border crossings were down 25%.And I have to say, well done Albertans and British Columbians.Vermont border crossings were down more than 28%.Because everybody know French is best.Everybody know that.And finally, Washington border crossings down more than 24%.

Small acts of pride and patriotism and solidarity repeated over and over again millions of times adds up to a big number and a big effect.And the Americans now are feeling it.Congratulations Canadians.And I just want to point out that this isn't just to harm the Americans, alright?We had fun in this video, but let me explain.The billions of dollars that we did not spend in the United States, especially on short trips across the border in cars, those billions of dollars that we didn't spend there, We spent here.

If you had crossed the border to the United States and you had to eat, you would have had to buy food, maybe in a restaurant.You stayed home and therefore you bought food or went to a restaurant here in Canada.And it's not just whatever the headline number of billions of dollars in tourism that the United States has lost that we have maintained here.It's not just that headline number because there's this snowball effect.If you go somewhere and you spend money, say at a restaurant, You spend money at the restaurant, the restaurant makes money.That money that the restaurant made from you gets spent again in that economy.

Especially if the restaurant has a good revenue, they're able to pay their staff more maybe.If they have a good year, they're maybe able to expand, do some renovations.The owner of the business, if he had a good year and has some extra cash, maybe he goes out and spends more money and the snowball rolls downward.through the economy.So by us not sending our money there and keeping our money here has done that in Canada.You do a simple act of going to a restaurant in Canada as opposed to going to a restaurant in the United States is not just the 50 bucks or 70 bucks that you spent at the restaurant.

That 50 or 70 bucks or whatever it is, I'm cheap, maybe I would spend 20, 22 bucks at the restaurant.I'll just have water and a cob salad.But the money that you spend, it gets absorbed by that restaurant and then the the staff, the owners, that enterprise re -injects that cash and cycles it through our economy and economists have tried to figure out what the multiplier is on this and it's not just a two or three times over.It's a much higher number on how many times that money just snowballs through the economy.So choosing Canada even though you think that your contribution may be small.Just remember that your small act of patriotism, pride, and solidarity multiplied over millions of times from other Canadians with all of us choosing Canada makes a huge difference.
