THE TRAITOR GAME: CANADA SET UP FOR BREXIT DISASTER

Hey there Midas Canada viewers, Resisters from all over, Charlie Angus here. And to our Midas friends in the United Kingdom, it's the 10th anniversary of Brexit.Things haven't gone well.Ongoing political instability, economic uncertainty.I mean, how many prime ministers have gone down trying to ride the waves of the growing chaos and social division that's been there?since it's been exacerbated by that Brexit vote and 10 years later still trying to figure a way out of this.

0:30

This is something Canada needs to pay attention to because we are in our Brexit summer with Daniel Smith's upcoming referendum in Alberta and I have to say that I am very concerned that those whose job it is to protect our democracy are asleep at the switch that those who should be recognizing the serious threat and dark players that are starting to form around Canada right now, just as they did in Brexit. There's a naivety that, oh, we'll just send the Prime Minister and a few more Liberal MPs to flip pancakes at the Calgary Stampede and everything will be OK.That's not good enough. And I want to talk about that today and talk about what we need to do.Okay, so there's a reason that I have been so urgent about the upcoming Alberta referendum. There is a reason that I have been so driven day after day to talk about the threat to our country.

1:40

It's because my eyes were opened in 2018 as a parliamentarian after the Brexit vote came down and realizing that there were digital mercenaries based here in Canada who played a big role in what went down in the UK and the fact that we needed to understand how easy it is for democracyto be upended in this age of digital manipulation and online players who could be based anywhere in the world.Out of those hearings in Ottawa, I was engaged then to go to the London UK to participate in what was called the Grand Committee of Parliamentarians from around the world and I saw and I understood how easy it is to upend democracy. This is why I am so concerned about the situation now.And I mention this because I just got an email the other day.The email was from Media Relations.

2:35

That's all it says.Media Relations, Public Safety Canada and it was signed by a spokesperson. This was in response to the fact that two weeks ago I went to Ottawa and called for an investigation by Canada's new Foreign Interference Commissioner, Anton Bergman, to launch an investigation into foreign interference by top officials in the White House who met with Alberta separatists, and discussions were had, apparently, of a $500 million slush fund to help the breakup of our country and the so -called transition.Specifically, I asked the new commissioner to look into the meetings that were held by White House officials and this group of Alberta separatists.According to the reports of this $500 million, who was at those meetings, who arranged for the separatists to meet with the top American officials, and who put the issue of foreign funding of breaking up our country on the table. Two weeks went by, radio silence.

3:37

Well, then I got this email from Media Relations, that's all it says.So the email from spokesperson basically said three basic things. The first one was that the office of the commissioner hadn't been set up yet.I know here we are facing the biggest threat to our country.decades and this Office of Foreign Interference hasn't been set up yet. There's more and more accusations that the government for whatever reason is slow walking the appointment of the Commissioner and giving him the tools he needs.

4:08

So that was the first thing I learned. The second thing I learned was that even if his office was set up, they told me he wouldn't have the mandate To investigate this, it said, the commissioner will not have a mandate to conduct criminal or national security investigations, matters involving potential criminal activity.Well, I actually hadn't said it was criminal activity yet.I asked him to investigate the meetings.National security concerns or electoral integrity fall within the mandates of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, RCMP, or other security and intelligence organizations or electoral oversight bodies.Wow.

4:42

So then I was like, so what the hell role does this guy have?Because I looked up the Act, and according to the Act, under Section 2, the Office of the Commissioner clearly has the jurisdiction to investigate arrangements. Now, according to the Act, an arrangement means An arrangement under which a person undertakes to carry out, under the direction of or in association with a foreign principal, any of the following activities in relation to a political government process in Canada.A. Communicating with a public officeholder.B. Communicating or disseminating or causing blah blah blah.C. Distributing money or items of value.

5:21

C. So a foreign entity that's offering money to effect a political or governmental process in Canada has a jurisdiction.and it said that he has the jurisdiction to investigate interference in the holding of an election or a referendum.Yeah, so why is it that they're telling me that that wouldn't be something he does whenever he gets set up?But the thing that they seem to be most concerned aboutwas that I was sending people to the wrong address.Apparently, I'm supposed to tell you that you're supposed to send, if you're concerned, like say the chiefs of Treaty 6, 7 and 8 who are calling out treason and demanding action as their constitutional rights are being upended, that you should contact General Inquiries at the Public Safety Canada.

6:13

General Inquiries. That's it.That's what this guy's job is going to be to do?I say this because, again, when you look at Brexit, you see how, like Canada, foreign interference began right away.Vladimir Putin wanted to break up the European Union and so what he did was he was targeting the Brexit crew from the get -go.Now David Cameron was the Prime Minister at the time and he had this problem with this backbench problem of raging Tories who were deeply opposed to the European Union so he thought well I'll hold a referendum.

6:48

Once I hold the referendum the remain side will win and it'll make them come back into the fold. Now David Cameron, what he did was he opened the door to foreign interference and dark actors, and that's what upended Brexit. Now in the case of Daniel Smith, she's no David Cameron. She's a lot more like Nigel Farage. She has pandered and built her political career working to the interests of the extremists and the separatists. So she had an easy option to shut this down with the Forever Canada petition, which would have had vast numbers of support.

7:24

She could have shut it down with that. But no, she sidelined that. And then she changed the rules to make it easy for the separatist referendum to get up off the ground. It was shut down by the court. She overruled the court. It was shut down by the courts again.

7:38

So then she changed the wording on the referendum to be a referendum about a referendum.I say this.because there is no reason for anyone to believe that Daniel Smith will be a positive actor, that she will play by the rules. This was a big mistake they made in Brexit. They set up the Electoral Commission and they thought that the Electoral Commission would oversee a process just like they do with political parties and candidates who play by the rules. But when you're dealing with people who want to break up, the European Union.

8:11

They're not playing by the rules. These are wildcards. This is winner take all.Anyone who thinks that the separatists are going to play by the rules are absolute fools because look at what happened with the stolen data.Three million Albertans had their data stolen and there's been no consequences. This is another one of these red flags because we know that what helped drive Brexit was the stolen Facebook data of millions of people that allowed the Leave campaign to target people individually.

8:39

All these factors are forming up.We see the offshore bots that are forming up just as they did in Brexit, we see that the Internet Research Agency, which I've spoken up again and again from Russia, are being set up in Alberta. So all the players are there for foreign interference. And yet again, our government is willing to go along with rules that have been completely skewered by a premier who's not respecting the Constitution at all and thinking that this is going to go okay. Now, I say this knowing that the polls are against the vote. But that's not what's at stake here, just like it wasn't at stake in Donbass with the so -called separatist movement.

9:23

What you do is you're creating conflict and you're creating division. And when you let foreign actors come into our country to create division, you end up with the kind of scars and political wounds that do not heal, just like in Brexit. So I just want to share with you some of the stuff I learnedfrom being on the hearing. So Cambridge Analytica was set up with Steve Bannon, Christopher Wiley, who was a Canadian. They managed to get all this data from Facebook.

9:50

They learned how to weaponize it.They worked for this company SCL, which was a British military contractor that worked in PsyOps operation. And then somehow they set up this side company in Canada, in Victoria, BC, called Aggregate IQ.Christopher Wiley said that this company was set up to be a sort of the offshore holding to allow them to carry on their work, but be seen as doing it through different wings.Because under the British electoral rules, there were two campaigns, Leave EU and Vote Leave, and they were not allowed to do any kind of coordinating together. But both, at various times, were sharing basically the same data and crew from Cambridge Analytica.

10:34

But one of that was run through Aggregate IQ.So here was a company in Canada that nobody had ever heard of.They got the vast majority of the money.for the advertising campaigns. And in the final week, £625 ,000 was transferred to them through this supposed youth wing of believe that youth group never saw the money. It went straight to this aggregate IQ.

10:59

So we tried to get answers from aggregate IQ.What the hell are you doing? What's going on here?Explain to us.If you watch the video, you are shocked at being able to get no answers, no understanding, What happens at the end of the day is that the Brexit vote got upended just barely, but barely enough to cause maximum chaos. This is why we need oversight.

This is why we need to stop the foreign actors now before they can do damage. This is why I've been so frantic about this because I've seen from the investigations and the parliamentary committees I've been involved in, the work I did at thein London, and here in Ottawa, that if you do not protect democracy, going in with a very clear vision, the dark mercenary forces will upend it.That's the story here.So just check out some of this footage. You don't have to watch it all, but I think it shows you the kind of world that we're dealing with, with digital operators.

11:58

Brittany Kaiser testified this past week at the UK, and she said, when I joined Cambridge Analytica, AIQ was our exclusive digital and data engineering partner.Mr. Massingham, is that correct?

12:11

Can't speak to that.

12:12

Well, is it correct? Can you say it's no?

12:14

I don't know if it's correct or not.

12:16

Oh, Cambridge Analytica says AIQ was our exclusive digital and data engineering partner. So is AIQ the exclusive data and engineering partner of Cambridge Analytica?No.No.Okay.Chris Vickery says AIQ is the data digital development team for SEL Canada and Cambridge Analytica.

12:35

Mr. Massingham, is that true?

12:37

No.

12:37

Okay.Christopher Wiley says that you are a franchise operation of Cambridge Analytica and SCL.Is that true?

12:48

No.

12:49

Okay.Mr. Wiley says that when he was appointed at Cambridge Analytica that he said we need a Canadian office and he went to Alexander Nix and he says there's a couple of Canadians I want to hire. And then he said that The group was set up as SEL Canada, but they had a Canadian entity and that legal name was Aggregate IQ.Is that correct?

13:18

Yeah.

13:19

OK.He said one of the reasons that they set this up was that it was very useful to keep the company at arm's length. It was useful.he said, particularly for American projects where you need different entities to work on campaigns and PACs and various other entities where you cannot necessarily coordinate. But if you have different companies, the paperwork looks appropriate and the paperwork compliance, even if behind the scenes, you're talking back and forth and using the same underlying technology. Is that correct?

13:51

What was the question?

13:52

The question is, he said that they were set up to keep you at arm's length because it was useful in order to make sure that the paperwork compliant, particularly with American projects.I don't believe that's correct.Okay.So up until March 2017, SCL had a phone that went directly to you, Mr. Massingham, as their head of SCL Canada. Is that correct? To my knowledge, that was the case.

14:19

Okay. How do you get a phone?that's from a UK office that goes directly to you.If you're not like, did the phone ever ring?

14:29

No.

14:29

Okay.It was my personal phone. It was your personal phone. So SCL had that.Christopher Wiley also testified that you guys have been very careful about being technically precise, but that you were quote, using weasel words.Would that be correct?

I don't believe so.No, because that takes me back to the question of the Brexit campaign, which the question is, is, this spectacular success story of again this unknown company above a optometrist shop in victoria that got all those campaigns all that money coordinated it they said that you were set up as a proxy money laundering campaign is that true mr massingham yeah that they're accusing you of being an electoral money laundering machine and one of the key elements is that is you'rewith Believe and the £625 ,000 that went directly through this marginal students group into your operation and then was used in the last six days of the Brexit campaign.Do you think that that may have affected the result?Because that's what they're saying in the United Kingdom.

15:43

I can't speak to what effect it might have had.I only know what believe asked us to do and place their ads and that's what we did.

15:54

Did you have any concerns at any time that it might be illegal?Because Mr. Wiley said he particularly approached you, actually Mr. Sylvester, here's a chance for you to answer, he approached you and he said that you thought it was all quite amusing and that you said it was totally illegal. So Mr. Sylvester, why did you say it was totally illegal?

16:17

I don't think I ever said to Mr. Wiley that what was happening was totally illegal, as I mentioned to you earlier. You're on the record here, right?I understand that.Mr. Wiley is going to come and he's going to say that you did say it.He's already said it on testimony. So just fess up.

16:29

Did you say it was totally illegal?Mr. Angus, we're trying to provide you all the information that we have and to be as helpful as possible to give everything we know about what is true. That's what we're continuing to do.And how Mr. Wiley came to the misunderstanding about what I had said.I don't know how he came to that misunderstanding. When I heard about it in the press, I believed it was a misunderstanding.

16:52

I sent a text to Mr. Wiley to ask him to talk about it.It wasn't a lie.It was just a misunderstanding that you said something was totally wrong.I don't know why he's saying it, Mr. Angus.I only know what we've done and what we've done.Thank you.

17:02

Thank you very much.

17:04

Okay, my friends, so that's that. And we have a Foreign Interference Commissioner.I don't know what the hell he does.I don't know when he's ever going to be set up.I don't know, you know, you could write to General Inquiries if you want to know more. But it looks like we are on our own in this.

17:19

And this is why it's soimportant to support the people in Alberta who are leading the fight right now for democracy.I want to just go to a couple of letters of the day.We got some amazing responses on, again, the Chief speaking up.Melissa writes, I appreciate learning about this and all things Canadian from Indiana, United States. Thanks, Charlie and team.

17:41

It's good to be reminded of those who are fighters.and their philosophies and efforts.I have so much respect for Indigenous people.Treaties are only as good as the people who fight for them, like other documents.Thinking about our U .S.

17:54

disregard for the treaties in the past and now our own Constitution.Lots of response on the desecration of the Canadian war graves and it was pointed out from the Midas mighty the Anzac Midas mighty that Israel desecrated the Anzac graves as well.Maria Lentouris writes, I am from Australia and I'm appalled that Israel has done the same things to our graves.WTF.Yeah.And Papa Tua Anacu writes, Kia ora a hoa ma Anzacs, lest we forget they never grow old respect.

18:28

Yeah.200 Australian war graves in Gaza bulldozed by the IDF.Bulldozed, just trashed. One of those was Albert Kemp, who died in 1942, and his grave was trashed. We need, again, ANZAC countries, Canada standing up.Less Trouble writes, it doesn't surprise me that the Israeli government would desecrate a Canadian military cemetery.

18:52

The Israeli army shelled a Canadian peacekeeping post on the Golan Heights that had been there for decades. It was well marked and on military maps.Canadian soldiers were killed and injured.Yes, that was Major Hess von Crudener, who was murdered by the IDF.Nothing was said. They didn't want Canada being there watching them as they fought on the Golan Heights.

19:14

Paul Kelly.writes, Thank you Charlie for highlighting the Canadian war graves in Gaza.My wife's father was a Canadian peacekeeper who died and is buried in Gaza. It's so devastating for her and her family to learn what has happened to their father's grave.Totally disgusting what Israel has done to the remains of the Canadian peacekeepers. And Big Martyr writes, my family is Jewish.

19:34

I've never been more saddened than watching this thing, this war, this country and what they're doing to humanity. You know, thanks so much for writing that.Again, it's always got to be clear that the Jewish community is not responsible for the crimes of the IDF and should not be held to blame in any way because the rise of anti -Semitism is serious. One of these things is we've got to get Netanyahu out of there and his top people have to be at the Hague and we've got to restore international law.Amazing stories on Lisa Blackburn's piece on libraries.Jennifer Leighton writes, libraries have been an integral part of my life.

20:11

I spent a lot of time in them growing up and making sure to bring my children to them for great children's programs and for the books. As an adult, I still use the library and feel a sense of peace and calm when there.Joshua writes, libraries are essential and should never be closed. It was the first place I went when I explored a new town and the first place I took my son when I raised him on my own and didn't have enough money to go anywhere else and he loved it.Library services help many people in many ways.Based on education alone, the service is well worth it.

20:40

And here's a great one.ADXP writes, the video surfaced of my MLA, that's the member of the legislative assembly, saying we should try and fund our libraries with 50 -50 draws.I wonder if he would expect that his salary should be funded by 50 -50 draws.Okay my friends, keep kicking at the darkness. It is bleeding daylight.Thank you, merci, and miigwech.
