Hey you, and welcome, my name is Mike. And in this whole video, folks, wait till you get a load of this one, right? Because what happened in a judge's chambers in Kentucky is sort of spiralling into this weird sexual mystery. It involves some larger than life characters, sheriffs, judges, all those sorts of fellas, and what they were doing in their spare time. Come on, you're alright.
A weird twisting conspiracy per chance.
Per chance! This story is about things not being as they seem. And sure, you never know. I could be naked down here below the camera. You don't know. This is definitely one of those, what was really going on type stories.
You know, was it involving somebody's daughter? Or was it involving favors? Wink wink. Let's give it a go.
π΅
This whole story takes us to Whitesburg, Letcher County, eastern Kentucky's finest. A place up to its nuts in Appalachian guts. It is a beautiful town that takes pride in its heritage. The natty beauty of the place would make you say hot diggity. And it's home to a little less than 2,000 folk. A small place a big ways away from any major cities.
And really anything that's not trees, trees, and some more trees over there. And also like mountains and shit like that. It's definitely a place being so remote that has a great sense of community. People all rally around each other when things get tough. Which is sort of funny, because that's the exact opposite of what happened one day in early autumn 2024.
It was September 19th, 2024 at the Letcher County Courthouse, downtown Chester Brown, Whitesburg. That day was a Thursday if you can believe that. And it was sort of just like a regular old day at the courthouse. Pretty quiet. Letcher County, relatively low crime rate comparatively.
At around midday that Thursday, District Judge Kevin Mullins, he had been out to lunch with a few folk from the office between court hearings at a place just near the courthouse, Whitesburg's finest sammies. Then at 237 p.m. Judge Kevin Mullins, he was back in his judges chambers. There was two people there waiting for him in the room. They were joined by another person and they were just sort of having a discussion about this and that. Then, two minutes later, in walks the
big guy, Letcher County Sheriff Sean M. Steins. He went by Mickey, so I'll call him Mickey. Sheriff Mickey Steins entered the judges chambers with another fella, a local pastor and addiction recovery worker. Now there's no audio of this exchange at all, the camera didn't record it. It seems like everybody there was at least friendly, they all knew each other. Again, small town, small courthouse.
Sheriff Steins and Judge Mullins had known each other for years. They had in fact just been at that lunch together a couple of hours earlier. As I said, small town, everybody sort of in and amongst each other's beeswax. After about a minute though you can see the sheriff, he has an angry look on his face and motions for everybody to leave the judges chambers. And the judge? Alright, what's this about? They then talk for quite a long time, and it seems tense from their body language.
The sheriff, he seems, agitated. Again, there wasn't any recording, but when he told the others to leave, they said he was pissed off. All the while, the judge is chilling there, huffing a dart. Sheriff Steins then tried to FaceTime somebody on his phone, his own daughter in fact. He tries twice, but she doesn't pick up. The judge then gives the sheriff his phone. He enters his daughter's number, tries again to FaceTime her, but no answer.
Sheriff Mickey Steins then stood up, pulled out his firearm, and shot the judge dead in his own chambers. Well what the shit was that all about? That's the bajillion dollar question because since those events there has been a hell of a lot of shady shit revealed going on in that courthouse. But first, let's get to the who is whom in this Batch of Bananas story.
Good afternoon, my name is Kevin Mullins, I'm district judge in Letcher County, Kentucky.
Letcher District Judge Kevin Mullins was 54 years of age when he was shot dead by the local sheriff. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville and was appointed District Judge in 2009, being re-elected several times since then, all the way to his death in 2024. He handled a variety of criminal, civil and probate cases in the state and federal courts.
Kevin Mullins was married, had two daughters of his own and certainly will be remembered as someone passionate about helping those with substance and mental health issues. He wasn't the sort of, you know yourself, lock him up and throw away the key type judges. Kevin Mullins truly believed in linking people with treatment services so they won't remain trapped in a circle of crime and abuse. Judge Mullins he wanted to introduce systemic changes in the legal system to you know help people affected by
substance abuse, mental health issues and all in all a pretty well-respected well-liked fun fella after he was shot dead you know people in town be
interviewed that nobody really had a bad word to say about Judge Mullins which well-liked, fun fella, after he was shot dead, you know, people in town would be interviewed,
that nobody really had a bad word to say about Judge Mullins. Which is exactly like the guy who shot him dead. Sheriff Sean Mickey Stines was also a well-liked fella in this small community.
I announced myself, you know, he knew me, the workers knew me. I told him it his Mickey Stines, I think I told him he had two warrants and that I was the
sheriff, he was under arrest.
Old Mickey over here was 44 years of age and he lived in McRoberts, a small community 25 minutes from Whitesburg. He lived there with his wife and daughter who he absolutely adored. On social media he posted plenty of pictures and videos of himself with young Lila. Mickey had been a cop in his hometown of Neon, then a bailiff, formerly at the Lecture County Courthouse before being elected sheriff in 2018, taking office January 7th, 2019.
He took over the job from the previous sheriff, who had been the longest serving in the county's history. Sheriff Steins saying when he got the job, I got some big shoes to fill, but I'm going to do my best. I really appreciate the people of Letcher County having the confidence in me to serve as their sheriff for the next four years years and I won't let them down.
My door will be open to everybody. Really Mickey because you certainly closed the door on the judge that's that's for sure and they were friends.
Why?
And while speaking of darker things going on in the background things no one was aware of did you know that there are darker things going on online? Thank you so much to Nord for sponsoring that chapter, but also for making the internet safer and freer. Now let's get back to it. Moments after shooting Judge Mullins, the judge was on the ground, still alive. Mickey then walked around the desk, shot him again.
Then he went to leave the judge's chambers, opened the door, whoops, he's still breathing. Another shot rang out. Mickey Stines shot him dead and made damn sure of it. Mickey Stein then left the room. A minute passes before somebody else, they entered the judges chambers, find Judge Mullins. He's probably seen better days, called for help. Sheriff Mickey Stein's a former sheriff. Mickey Stein, he actually left the Letcher County Courthouse before doing a
360 and 180ing back into the courthouse and Voluntarily surrendering to officers there his behavior as you will see in this body count footage bit bizarre like Batch it back like what this shit
behavior Jason and him is going to double check. You got your body camera on?
I did.
Okay.
Yeah.
So.
I believe you, Mickey.
Okay.
We're going to have to remove him from the hallway. And I wanted to wait until you got back until you had your body camera on it. Because we can't leave him here. We've got to have to remove him from the hallway. And I wanted to wait to jump back to you had your body camera on it. Because we can't leave it there. We've got people inside these rooms. We're going to finish this sweep and we need to move him somewhere.
Okay.
You okay?
Why you going to transport me in a vehicle? Probably not to put you in Ledger County jail. I mean, just probably because I don't know though. I don't know if that's happening. You don't mind if I be down there? You don't mind if I be down there?
They'll put me in a cell.
We'll talk about that, you know.
Now I'm alive and well, no weapons on me. Okay. So, I'll leave this building, I won't draw another breath. Read him Miranda before you go in.
Well, I'm going to get in there.
Okay, well, uh, Nicky, you know Miranda. I'm gonna read it to you here real fast.
He seems to believe his life is in danger, that somebody's gonna turn his head into hamburger, and um, like he doesn't even know what a Miranda warning is. The sheriff doesn't know that.
Miranda. Miranda warning. What is it? For your rights before you talk to me. I'll read it to you. If you have any questions you can ask me okay? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney and to have one present during any question. Mickey, you know me, I would never do anything to you. Or is that what you're worried? Is that at some point you're leaving this field? Is that what you're worried about? I want as many officers as you can get
to take me. So we could start to the jail here. We can make that, we can make that. Downstairs to the jail here. That's not your request.
You can't make that request. Because we're just here for a black county,
we would put you at risk by taking you down.
What's going on?
What happened?
I don't feel safe. Man, I've worked with you all for years, man.
I don't know, years.
We listen.
We listen to them.
I sure don't feel safe.
Everybody should have their body cam on by policy, right?
Come on, stand up.
We'll walk back here. Now, come on, guys. No, you're...
No, come on.
Come on, Mickey.
Nothing?
No, no. Come on Mickey nothing. No. Oh now. What's our food by Kim's right? Thank you. We're it's all recorded and there's it is a record Show you that it's right look come on We've known each other a long time. Look it is recording that one's recording Clayton has a backup recorder, right? Come on guys What oh, yeah, let's slow down slow down. What's he? Yeah, there's slow down. What's the problem? You can't talk in the hallway at the courthouse. Yeah, there's people here. I mean, there's people in that room, there's people in that room.
You can't do that.
So what's the problem?
I'll get another one. I'll put one on Mickey. You want that?
Will that be okay?
But I can't be in that room.
Mickey, listen. that you trust other than us that you would prefer to be with us?
When we page you, we page you down. No, no, pull my pockets inside out. Guys, y'all don't do me this way.
We have never had one bad word to each other.
Never.
You're gonna kill me.
Never in our lives.
You know you are.
Why are you?
He seems absolutely whacked out of it completely and it's sort of hard to tell if he is faking it or really losing it. If you watch it from the beginning he seems pretty sort of not insane. I knew exactly what he was doing.
I'll be honest Mickey, you don't seem like you normally do when I speak to you. Well no, not just that, not just you. You're making a handcuffs for me. Well, not just that. Just won't y'all be fair to me. You know I'm going to be fair to you. But you do seem off compared to how you normally interact with me. Like something's going on.
Like has anything else been going on the last few weeks? Do you take like medicine for anything?
Any type of illness or anything? I mean honestly the fact that he says what's a Miranda warning that sort of makes me think we're sort of faking it um but he's like out of it he seems convinced that the officers who all say like they've all known him for years again small town they they known him all their life they're all like trying to convince him we're. We're not gonna harm you in any way And he's like you guys are gonna freaking goodfellas me. He's Joe Pesci
Thinking he's good. It's gonna go to a jail cell. Uh-uh, buddy He seems just convinced I'm paranoid out of out of his ass that they're gonna kill him
I got I got my camera on. Come on now, guys.
We got to get down there some way, OK? Mickey.
Come on now, guys.
Be fair with me now.
Come on, guys.
Come on now.
If you ain't got nothing to eat, we
wouldn't know why you didn't share it with us.
Come on now.
Nobody's going to do a thing to you.
You walk yourself, OK? No, no, there are gloves there and everything. Come on, come on, put them down. Gloves? That's from, that's from, that's from EMS.
No, no.
Keep going.
Now, come on.
Come on, you're alright.
Now, now.
Now, don't kill me now.
Mickey Steins was later charged with one count of murder and pleaded not guilty. His defence has said they are going to pursue an insanity defence and there could be some merit to that. A social worker examined him four days after the shooting and said he was in an active state of psychosis and co-workers and friends said he was acting weird in the lead up to the shooting.
But weird doesn't necessarily mean insane. It just means he could have been anxious or angry. He did see a doctor a couple of days before the shooting who said he was subdued, but like not, you know, out of it, out of it, insane. It's so insane he will murder somebody. And then in jail, they would say he could get angry, very confrontational. He even had to be pepper sprayed one time in jail and given tranquilizers to like kind of calm him down. He has since refused so far to talk to investigators
about why he killed the judge. So as an ongoing case there's a lot of rumors, speculation and conjecture and all of that has to be taken with a little pinch of salt. Taken with a pinch of salt because that just makes the rumors all the more delicious baby doll. I mean going into a judge's office and shooting him stone-cold dead is ludicrous. Unless... Anyway, can you hear me now? I was asking why you done it. Was it over your family?
I'm just talking to you. I'm just asking, was this something to do with your family or anything like that? Because if something did happen, you know, I mean, it'd be good to let us know. Does any of this have to do with your daughter? The daughter rumors were the first ones to fly. The fact that Mickey Stein's moments before he bang bang banged the judge dead he tried to call her on his own phone twice then got the judge's phone, yoink, enters his daughter's number
tries to call her. She picks up to none of these calls. Why was he trying to call her, his beloved daughter, moments, you know, killing somebody in a pretty hardcore way? Like folks, not afraid to say it. That's weird. Why did you want to talk to your daughter while I go, Mickey? In fact, at the preliminary hearing, it was stated that Mickey Stein's teen daughter, her number was found in the judge's phone. Why would he have it?
Now that statement was incorrect. Her number technically was found in Judge Kevin Mullins' phone but that's because Mickey Stein's just entered it. He didn't have her number before. So that definitely didn't like help with the rumors. But the rumor mill in Letcher County is that Judge Kevin Mullins slept
with Mickey Stein's teen underage daughter and Mickey found out and um was gonna sort it out the old-fashioned way. It was gossip but again calling her moments before he killed somebody reason why what and allegedly Judge Kevin Mullins was a known skirt chaser I mean rumor but gossip juicy gossip and another rumor going around Letcher County was the complete opposite that Mickey Stein's wife and daughter were trying to escape him they're trying to run away from Sheriff Stein's because he
was abusive and judge Kevin Mullins was helping Mickey's daughter and wife get away and so Mickey finds out and says I'm not a fan of thatins was helping Mickey's daughter and wife get away and so Mickey finds out and says I'm not a fan of that movie. Now Mickey's daughter would deny having ever having any contact with Judge Mullins and investigators would say they never found any evidence of contact between Mickey's daughter and Judge Mullins. No phone calls, texts, social media messages, nothing. So rumors that so far just smoke no real fire so far. But you know what doesn't need rumors?
The actual shady shit going on in that courthouse. And yeah, yeah, it's sexual. In 2022, two women from Letcher County began a federal lawsuit, one saying that when she was charged with possession of a controlled substance and escape, she couldn't pay for home incarceration. Basically, she couldn't afford an ankle monitor and she was terrified of going back
to jail. And so a Letcher County Sheriff's Deputy, one of Mickey Stein's boys, a fella named Ben Fields, he was like, well if you can't pay for the ankle bracelet, you can pay in nature. As uh, yeah. As gross as that is. In the civil suit filed, it said that Deputy Fields met her in the district judge's chambers
late at night six times and forced her to engage in unwanted kissing, oral sex and intercourse. The other woman, she had the exact same story. She couldn't afford an ankle bracelet, so Sheriff's Deputy Ben Fields says, well, I know some way you can pay for it, wink, wink. And the District Judge's chambers where he was allegedly sexually assaulting these women?
Why it was Judge Kevin Mullins' own chambers, of course, where he would allegedly you know sexually assaulting these women. Why it was Judge Kevin Mullins's own chambers of course where he would later be murdered. And not only that, named in this civil suit Sheriff Mickey Steins. He was named, now he wasn't named as having done anything inappropriate with these inmates, but he was named basically as a defendant in this suit for allegedly failing to properly train his deputy. He was also accused of having been aware or at least suspicious about what his deputy was doing
but he had not investigated it nor responded to any of the reports basically saying that he knew what was going on but he turned a blind eye. In this suit it doesn't say also whether Judge Mullins was aware of what was going on in his chambers or no. So we don't know if he was aware that one of the deputies was, you know, assaulting women. And that deputy he was later sentenced to prison. He was later convicted for rape for that. And then
guess what? You won't believe it. Another woman came forward. This time though with information about the judge himself. and with the story she has to
tell.
It sounds like Judge Kevin Mullins was very aware of what was going on in his chambers and in the courthouse entirely. Ty Adams, the sister of a Kentucky attorney and her informal intern, got to know Judge Mullins' true work and she claims he introduced her to sex parties and sex for money and all that sort of
thing. And whenever we're done he threw money in my face told me to clean myself up and reminded me that I knew better than to tell my sister. And what was his job at that time? Assistant Commonwealth Attorney and then after
that point that's when he started introducing me to his friends the other And because Judge Mullins was so powerful, there was um, well, you know, the implication. Allegedly Judge Mullins, a lot of the hires up, were all in on it. The courthouse and the lockup in Lexchurch County has been described as a, quote, brothel.
What did you think when you were working there?
That it was a brothel. It is all just a, it's all a brothel. Between all the employees sleeping with each other and sleeping with the inmates that come in, it's nasty.
It's sickening.
Did you know inmates were having sex with the judge?
Yes, pretty much that's kind of the thing that everybody in the county knows, but it was confirmed to me after working in the jail, especially after being invited to a party myself.
Who asked you?
It was Mr. Mullins himself. I believe that the sheriff, he either knew something or something was going on that he knew about that we all might not know about
that he was doing something to protect us. Judge Kevin Mullins and other staffers, it's been alleged, were having sex with all the inmates in exchange for, you know, favorable treatment. And during the investigation into deputy Ben Fields some audio recordings were discovered which pointed squarely at Judge Mullins.
He does have some video tapes of some stuff in the judges chambers.
What kind of stuff?
Just witch girls sexual and stuff.
Who was having sex?
Ben and just some higher ups up there.
Who? The judge. And you saw the video? Yeah. What did you see on the video? I mean you- I mean, I've seen Judge Walton's sex with a girl.
Who was the girl? I don't know. Where was it at? In his office, in the judge's chambers.
Yikes folks, big yikes. I mean it's like there's definitely some shady shit going on in that the court. deep and dark and there was this many people involved, the judge, it's only ever been listed as other higher ups. Maybe Mickey Steins had reason, that's why he was so scared for his life, scared for his family's life, that, you know, somebody was gonna come get him. As I said, Mickey Steins' defense is pursuing an insanity defense. If he is found guilty guilty he could face the death
penalty of course in Kentucky. But we still don't know why he killed Judge Kevin Mullins. I mean you got these like brothels, sex for favors, they're basically raping the inmates in this courthouse. Or was it something to do with his daughter? Now they've both denied it, investigators have said it, there's nothing going on there. Mickey Stein's wife and daughter vote him out and said no we never had nothing to do with Judge Mullins but in the body camp
of when they're arresting Sheriff Mickey Stein's when they're driving to the to the jail the officer keeps asking Mickey Stein's if it's related to his daughter why would he ask that? Does he have to do anything with your daughter? Just a yes or no, Mickey. Was this something to do with your daughter? So Mickey, was this anything to do with your daughter? That's a very strange question to ask just randomly. It seems like that officer knew that maybe Judge Mullins had a reputation or something or other linked to maybe younger girls and maybe specifically
Mickey's Mickey Stein's daughter. Others have said that due to him being named in that civil suit related to Ben Fields's actions that he was like under an undue amount of stress and pressure and he was basically losing it. He had testified in a deposition related to that civil suit only three days before the killing of Kevin Mullins. Others said Mickey Steins was fearful that they were going to kill his wife and daughter. Now he never said who they were but they
were, if they existed, in cahoots with the judge. That maybe Mickey was gonna say something in a deposition or in the civil trial he shouldn't have. He shouldn't be saying and they were threatening him. Then it must be clearly related to this like sextortion shit going on in the courthouse. Mickey Steins was named in the suit.
His life was coming apart. As I said he wasn't named as himself. Nobody's ever said Mickey Steins himself was doing anything untoward with the inmates. But I mean, he was named for not training his deputy to... ...not sexually assault the inmates. That sort of says a lot, that the deputies need to be trained not to sexually assault people.
But maybe if the judge was involved, and from that audio recording it sounds like he could have been, the lockup was called a brothel maybe Mickey signs blight district judge Kevin Mullins for his own life falling apart being named in the civil suit and judge Mullins was top doc so he would be the guy kind of knowing what was going on and maybe the ringleader but who knows folks all this you know it's an ongoing case it's all like allegedly and apparently but there definitely was shady shit going on in the case. It's all like allegedly and apparently, but there definitely was shady shit going on in the Letcher County courthouse that ended with the sheriff murdering the
judge and we don't know why. It's nuts beyond belief and the more you dig in here, the more slimy shit you find. So yuck. Keep a sharp eye out folks for the upcoming trial of a former sheriff, Mickey Stines. There's no court dates, trial dates set as of yet, but I'm pretty sure in the lead up to it, more and more shady shit will come out about what was really going on
in the Letcher County Courthouse. If only we could have the audio of what Mickey and the judge were talking about that day. I can't imagine they were talking about anything good. Thank you so much for watching, folks. That means the world to me that you're here watching
