This new relationship DESERVES an extreme bedroom makeover

How do you take a bedroom that is functionally fine and turn it into the cozy, moody escape of your dreams in just a few short days?Let me show you how.Let me prove to you why it's time to go bold in the bedroom.Let's get started.So Nina is our executive producer and brand partnerships lead here at the Sawyer Girls.She does so many things behind the scenes, but essentially makes sure that you get all of these amazing makeovers from us delivered to you on time.

You may also remember her iconic organic modern apartment that we made over for her after she left a long -term relationship.Well, it's been over two years since then.Nina is still loving her living space and is happily in a new relationship.Cue the cute photos.I love love.Well, I am back here again, but this time to tackle her bedroom and give it a much needed extreme makeover to help celebrate this new era for her.

So let's get started.Okay, so Nina's bedroom is functionally fine at first glance.It has some of those key things like nice curtains for texture, a soft ceiling light, a great big mirror.However, what I think we're missing are a few of those really big wow factor pieces that will turn this space from a nice hotel into a cozy, moody retreat.It's gonna be so dreamy.You will have the best dreams sleeping in here, guaranteed.

When I look at this mood board that Nina has sent me, there is one major element that's in every single photo that I think we simply must do to nail this style.And that is color drenching this room in a rich moody color.Let's start here because I think this is going to be a very big task and I'll tell you more about my plan to fully bring the style to life as we go.Before we get to painting, I'm moving some stuff out of the room.She does have some really great art that I absolutely want to bring back in when we're done.Her side tables, however, don't match, so I'm hoping that we can thrift something better.

This is the color Deep Mauve by Benjamin Moore, and it's going on the walls, and the doors, and the ceiling, basically everywhere.I do think this might take me a while though so I will check in with you once it's all done.I love it so much.I love it even more than I thought that I would.This is the exact way to do color drenching, in my opinion.When there's a color that you just want to feel so wrapped up in, like a big hug, this rich, moody mauve is totally 100 % it.

And I think we're off to such a fantastic start.So you might have noticed that I moved the bed to this wall.And that's because above we have this bulkhead that I actually want to use to my advantage.I'm going to build kind of a cozy nook feeling under here with an accent wall.We'll be doing it a little bit, which honestly, I don't know if you guys are going to love it or hate it.I'll let you tell me your thoughts when we get there.

But before we do, in the meantime, let's not have regrets.Those of you who know, know.But if you don't, That simply means not moving your heavy furniture more than you have to.Put the rugs down first and do the rest of the decorating after.So have a rug.Let's go get it.

This is not the rug, by the way.This is just the rug pad.If any of you were deeply judging me from the other side of the screen.Wow.Hold on.Things are shifting.

I don't know if it was the rug or the rug bed.That was not the size that it was advertised at, but this is like two inches too big.So I'm just gonna give it a little trim and then it all will be right.Why?Why did you do this?Explain yourself.

Sometimes things just don't make sense.And that's why scissors were invented.I will link this rug for you because this was actually a really good price for how nice this rug is.It's not one of those printed pattern rugs.The colors are actually in the fibers of the rug and it's very, very soft.Derek is Nina's new partner and he has expressed he does not like her current mattress at all.

So on a scale of rooms that require no curtains to one that requires them all, I have to think that romantic luxury hideaway is right there at the top.So the idea has come to me to do a giant curtain statement wall all along this back wall here, putting some insta pictures on screen here because I just deeply need to be understood.I honestly think this is going to be exactly that little bit of extra.that we need in this room to take it to that next level.Now, to do this, we're going to need a lot of curtains.So let's go.

I'm going to need all these curtains to match.So I think that thrifting might have to be out for this one.I brought with me a sample of the bedding and the paint chip for the wall color.So there's really only one option here.OK, it's reading a little gray on camera.Trust me.

It's like a dusty rose, which I think I like.My goal was to find something more saturated for sure.Just because this is different than the vision doesn't meanit's bad now thankfully they had seven panels of this mauve curtain which is i think exactly what it's going to take to cover this entire wall this type of curtain has the standard like pocket hole at the top that you thread the rod through, that doesn't give you those really nice like hotel waves that I'm looking for.So to get that, I'm going to have to add some pleat tape along the top of every single curtain.

Now normally when I've bought this stuff before it's called pleat tape.

This was called wave tape and I think the reason is because it's made of like a thicker plastic nylon which as you can see holds its shape a lot better.If I end up liking this I will absolutely link it below for you because I think this is going to make figuring out nice curtains a lot easier.Let's get to sewing.So I know that now we don't have the office anymore that we film content out of.You guys see less and less of the team, except for videos like this, which I'm literally at Nina's and you'll see her at the end of this video.But we still wanted to make sure that we had a place for some of our longest supporters to learn more about what's going on behind the scenes.

I'll link it below.I think it's really interesting.And I know that some of you have questions and I hope we did our best to answer it linked below.Now the most logical way to hang all these curtains would be a curtain rod all across the back wall.A curtain rod of that size and that goes aroundcorners the way I want it to is going to be a little bit expensive.

And the thing with this scenario is that I actually don't need the curtains to move or open because they're just going in front of a plain wall.They're really there to add texture and interest and not to actually like curtain off anything.So I have a bit of a unique plan that I don't think I've seen anyone do, but I think it's gonna save me a ton of money and function exactly the way I need it to.This is a product called Allround, and it's essentially a flat metal strip that comes all rolled up with a ton of holes in it.And you can use this for so many things, like holding up shelves, holding up pipes, I don't know, holding down your rocket because it's not ready to be launched yet.I don't know what this is.

Anyways, I think though it will be the perfect material to clip a ton of curtains to really easily and it's only going to require a few small screw holes in the wall.And the bonus part is that this whole roll is like $5 at the hardware store.I'm just going to do it and then when we see that it works, then you'll be convinced, I'm sure.Come on.i don't know why people don't just make screws magnetic like is it really that hard to do and because it's a flexible material i can easily have it make like a gentle curve around that corner there people what the heck noAh, figured it out, everything's fine.

Install!Does it not look so good?I feel like it feels like a hotel, but in like the very best sense.I might have referenced hotel in the beginning in not a good sense.That will turn this space from a nice hotel.But it is looking so good, so chic, so elegant, so expensive.

And it really wasn't that bad.I think each curtain panel was like 20 something dollars.So, we, are off to a fabulous start in here.But I want to bring in a little more furniture.So as you saw before, she had two mismatched nightstands.I thought I could do something better.

I actually knew that I could because bedroom furniture is one of the most thriftable items.I don't know why there's just so much bedroom furniture, bedroom sets on Marketplace.There was a lot of nightstands I was looking at.Really loved this flowery option here, but I didn't want it to feel too floral in here There was also these round boys that I thought were really interesting But I ended up going with this option which it just had that clean Modern edge to it and sort of grayish tone of the wood I think is gonna match really well with the bed frame that she already had I'll say the one downside of getting things secondhand is you often don't get the manualanymore to put things back together.I'll figure this out.

I have Emma with me today.Hello.You want to do some steaming?Yes, I do.We have a lot of it.My new best friend.

This is her actual window, which requires actual curtains.functioning curtains.She has a set of blackouts which she likes to use and I think they're great and we should keep them if they function and the color works fine.The only thing I'm feeling is that they're a bit similar in texture to the curtain accent wall and I'd like to add another layer to them to make them feel softer, a bit more elegant.So what I'm proposing we do as a way to balance all these different curtains is have this set of sheer curtains drape entirely to the side.Almost like a side bang for this wall.

I think we're bringing it back.The 2000s are coming back, and therefore the side bang is coming back with it.I have this curtain hook, which I think if I just add it to the wall, it will hold all of this beautifully.It will be a vibe.I like, though, what's happening here, how the shorter ones fall higher.Yeah.

Pretty.It is.The layers.

Okay, so the last thing that I want to get done today so I can really feel like I've done this wall is address lighting.Every good bed setup needs lighting on either side, whether that be a table light, a hanging pendant, or in our case, some wall sconces.I have seen this float around on Pinterest, this sort of lighting coming through the curtain effect, and I just think it's so beautiful and I would love to try it here now that I feel like we have the perfect space to do it.I purchased these moststunning brass sconces off of Etsy.I will absolutely leave the link for you below because they were quite affordable for how beautiful they are.

Let me get them hung and I'll confirm that they're doing what I imagined them doing, which in my head, it's so stunning.Oh, it's so good.That's exactly what I imagined it.Doing and I just want to emphasize this I have put an LED bulb in this which is not gonna get hot at all If you have any sort of lighting near fabric, please be careful.Oh, it's gonna be so like a moody.It's good Okay, let me get the other one.

So we've addressed this wall.It's looking fantastic Let's address this back wall that it's very bare currently.I have been doing a ton of marketplace pickups this morning first being this beautiful antique brass picture light, which I want to put above a mirror that she already had in this bedroom.Now, the other thing being the fact that Nina requested more storage in here.She wants more space to put things, especially now that she's having someone stay over more often.They would like a place to put things.

So I was racking my brain because we don't have a ton of empty room in here to put something big.But what I did come across was an item called a lingerie chest.They are skinny.They are tall and they're kind of compact little drawer units.This one was beautiful.It's vintage in style.

I think it will tuck so nicely into this corner.Oh, that's perfect.And there's still enough walking room here, which is the one thing I was a little worried about, but we are golden.I actually think that if I space the mirror off the wall, like a centimeter, it will leave just enough space for that light to slip behind and rest there perfectly, which makes this a much easier install.Let's see if I'm right.I think disregard what I said because I don't know if that really worked.

I screwed it to the wall.Hey let's bring our attention to the ceiling because I just wanna talk about this light.And I know what you're thinking, that light is beautiful.And I agree, I really like this light.We use a lot of drum pendant light lights like this when we do makeovers because they just are easy and they give off a really nice soft glow.Why are we talking about it?

Because I just feel like I can make it a little more special, a little more on theme to this room without actually replacing it.So here's what I picked up.Some fringe.Who doesn't love a good tassel?A good fringe?I certainly do.

I bought red and white just because I wasn't sure, but now that I'm seeing it, actually I don't know.I was really set on the white, but this is beautiful.Okay, I think I'm still gonna go white.But you guys let me know, should I have gone with the red?This is really nice, this is so statement.But I think, I think the tone on tone is the simple choice here.

I have the too much jean sometimes, where I just wanna put too much on everything and I need to reel it back in.So, we're gonna use white and I'm gonna do it on this inner ring here, just as a really nice little accent moment.And literally, I think, Basic hot glue is all I need to get this job done.Cause this is very lightweight.Oh, should I?No, no, no.

I'm going to do the white.Years of DIY have made my fingers resilient to hot glue burns.And for that, I am grateful.She's going to be so pretty.It looks fabulous.I'm going to cut off the extra now since I've made it all the way around.

And then you might notice that it seems like it's attached at the bottom.They do this on purpose so that when they're shipping the fringe, it doesn't just end up in a giant knotted mess.So now that I'm done, I think I can just easily pull this thread out that's holding it all together.Release the fringe.I thought that would be a more satisfying task to pull it out.

It's not.

It's like the stickers that come on appliances.Like when did those stop becoming fun to remove?They're not satisfying anymore.They're like on there.Okay, I think I now have every major element done, sorted.It's looking amazing.

So now we just have to do all those little final touches to bring this face together, starting with the bedding.This bedding wasgifted to us by Quince, and it is the exact right mood that I needed to finish off this room.Is this deep, rich burgundy linen not just to die for?It is so stunning.I'm trying to find a way to include this color into my house now.
