Former Environment and Climate Change Minister Stephen Gilboa is considering resigning from the Liberal Party caucus.
Parliament Hill was very loud today.A lot of talk around China, a lot of talk around certain MOUs, but also a lot of talk around a particular former cabinet member named Stephen Gilboa. It's being reported that he's going to be stepping away from the Liberal caucus. His journey of Removing himself further and further from the liberal brand has been an interesting evolution and development and we're gonna be talking about that On top of everything else happening today on the hill, including, well, what in God's name is China doing and the influence they currently have over this PM?Oh, baby. We're gonna be talking about this and so much more.
Welcome to the Elevate Report.I'm your host, Josh. Now let's get into our first story, shall we?From CTV News, Gui Bo could quit caucus as soon as this week.Government sources tell CTV News. And this is the video that's going around about it.
With a live look to Parliament Hill and breaking news that we're following.Multiple sources telling CTV News today that former Environment and Climate Change Minister Stephen Gilboa is considering resigning from the Liberal Party caucus. The move is over his concerns about the Carney government's rollback of climate policies.Let's get straight to CTV's Annie Bergeron Oliver.Annie, what are you learning?
Hi, Marcia.Well, this is breaking news. The story just went out by our colleague Vasi Kapelos, and as you pointed out, sources are telling her that Stephen Gilboa is considering resigning from the Liberal Party. It says that right now he's still deciding what to do, but he is considering leaving the Liberal Party and potentially remaining on as an independent MP.Of course, this would be a blow to the Prime Minister for a number of reasons, not just because the Prime Minister does have this slim majority in the House,of Commons, but because Stephen Gilboa has been a very outspoken supporter for the need for governments at all levels to really combat climate change and to reduce emissions.
He was a very well -known climate activist before getting into politics and he championed a lot of the Trudeau era policies when it came to climate change in the environment when he was environment and climate change minister. For example, the carbon tax was something that he really pushed for both the consumer and the industrial carbon tax.
So there's a story there. Not surprising because this is what we've been talking about for and speculating on for the past several weeks is that Guibo's time is numbered. It's coming up.It's going to expire fairly shortly because he's really not liking this whole playing both sides of the coin situation that Mark Carney is doing.Trying to placate and make everybody happy at this point in politics, at this point in our country, is just not going to work. You have to be one side or the other.
Are you going to be a climate zealot, woke fanatic, or are you going to run on conservative principles?Which ones are going to be?You can't be both, but Mark Carney is trying to do that. And as I've been saying, everything that's happening in Ottawa right now, in politics, whether it be the news, caucus eruptions happening behind closed doors, you name it, it's all going to start catching up to the polling numbers right now.You know you have Mark Carney somewhere around a 55 -ish percent of 55, 56 % approval rating, something along those lines, but he's also around a 35 to 37 % disapproval rating, meaning he's floating around the plus 20 favorability when he was plus 33 just a month ago. It's already starting to move.
Things are beginning to shift. And we're starting to see the cracks form right before our very eyes. This is why I come out on these things early and makeeverything, risk the brand to tell you what we're seeing from a trend perspective happening behind the scenes because I'm the psycho who's willing to put his name out there to tell you what I'm seeing. And this is exactly what we're seeing in real time. The decline is starting to take place.
Geebo is a big part of that. Now, as I said, him sitting as an independent or if he steps out altogether, it doesn't really matter. His writing is very liberal, safe.NDP and conservatives have next to really no presence in those writings right now.I think the block would be the greatest opportunity to maybe gain some ground. You had the block yesterday in the House of Commons.
telling the liberals to cross the floor over to them, which shows that they are feeling a little bit of bravado because they're starting to see what's happening on Parliament Hill as well, and the fractures that are happening in this caucus. And now here we are, the next day, Guilbault is like, I'm debating on leaving. And if he steps away, what happens?Genuinely, what happens? He can sit as an independent. But remember, there were 14 names who penned a letter to Carney on this issue with the MOU of pipeline with Alberta.
What keeps even two or three of them stepping away and sitting as independents? What's the coin you take? What did I say?Mark Carney is going to go in history as the first prime minister to gain a majority through floor crossing, which is what we've seen. But he's also going to be the first prime minister to lose a majority in the same year. And guess what?
He's in danger of that happening right now.But I'm not going to sit here and tell you. This is a good thing for the conservatives.downwards as much as that's going to start happening the conservatives have to start doing some serious uphill work to the moderates of the world whether you agree with what they say or not whether you agree with their stance or not they just aren't bought into the conservative party right now for one reason or another and so i think now is the time to start getting a little aggressive if you're a conservative party because the cracks are showing Things are starting to fall apart behind the closed doors right now.People are talking about cabinet shuffles.People are penning letters.
People are threatening to leave caucus. It's all happening all at once. What did I say? This took so long for this to happen to Justin Trudeau. And it's taken Mark Carney 13, 14 months for it to happen. So naturally, the question was asked to Melanie Jolie of how she feels about Guilbault potentially leaving.
Are you worried about losing more MPs because of the MOU with Alberta?
that is the main energy producer in Canada part of our plan. And therefore, you can have the best plan possible. You need to make it work. You need to be pragmatic. We're also dealing with an energy crisis right now, which is affecting the gas price across the country.Although, basically, things are happening thousands of kilometers away.
from where we are.And so in these circumstances, we need to be able to protect our energy sovereignty and be able to support our allies. So we can do both.We can work on energy security. We can work on protecting the environment. And that's what we'll do.
It's funny that she said that.We can do both.We can do, you know, work on our energy sovereignty, and we can protect the environment.Thing is that's really funny is I remember that promise going out back in 2015.I remember Trudeau saying something along the same lines, and then he went in and shut down Alberta Energy.Screwed over the province, screwed over their energy sectors.
And now you're sitting here 10, 11 years later saying the same thing. You can do both.Guess what? You can't do both. You, you refuse to do both. And guess why?
There's a reason why Guilbault's stepping away. It's because you know you can't do both. You can say what you want about him.I don't like the man whatsoever. But at least he's being honest. It's either we do a pipeline or we don't.
If we're doing a pipeline, then we're not serious about my climate change goals. So I'm out.You can't do both.Guilbault rumored to leave caucus, him already leaving cabinet is already a signal saying he knows you can't do both.So that should be a message to the Canadian people that guess what? This liberal party is lying to you.
You cannot do both. You're either going to torpedo our economy into oblivion for the sake of climate change goals, or you're going to be an energy superpower, still do everything responsibly, but not to the degree that the fanatics want in your party.I want to make that clear. You can do both. You can be responsible with energy resources. You can be responsible with how you extract energy and use it.
You can do that. But it's what the climate fanatics like Igbo and all his friends want to do.What they want versus having energy security are you can't have both of those worlds. Those are two diametrically different worlds that you cannot have.Igbo knows it.And the Liberal Party, if you read Mark Carney's book, you can't have both of their worlds either.
She's lying to you.Justin Trudeau lied to you in 2015, they lied to you throughout the 10 years, and they're lying to you now.And Guilbault threatening to leave over this should tell you everything. He won't say it, but his actions dictate all of it.Quite frankly, he may end up just saying that.Because what I found really funny, which is sad but annoying at the same time, it's news I missed two days ago.
But hey.Breaking news from two days ago, if you caught it, then you're awesome. If you missed it, then here you go.From Laura Stone, the Ontario Liberal Party has dismissed Nate Erskine -Smith's appeal for Scarborough Southwest nomination, finding no irregularities and determining that Ashanel Afeez was the true winner of the vote. After everything that took place during that nomination, that race, what the scrutineers saw, the evidence we saw on paper where people were told, vote for this guy as the instructions on a ballot, they saw no irregularities about it.This is why I hate it, but I love it.
I love it because I'm glad it happened to Nate Erskine -Smith, who's advocated for crazy policies that have led to this result. But number two, there's some serious problems with their election processes in this country. This is bananas.Yes, I get it.It was run by the party. This wasn't a general election.
It was just a party nomination race.I get it.But how can you take parties seriously if they can't run their own nomination? And then they investigate themselves and realize, nope, no wrongdoing here.Even though all the evidence was clear as day to people who aren't in the party, who weren't a part of the process, where it's like, wait, there's no problem with what you saw there?Yikes.
Aaron O'Toole decided to pipe in on this, and honestly, rightfully so.He said, this is unfortunate. The Ontario Liberal Party has been at the epicentre of Canadian problems with foreign interference since CSIS raised it with the McGuinty government in 2010.They could havechosen a new course of transparency and set an example for the country, but they chose not to."" Honestly, Ayrton's not wrong here.
It's true.Because of us welcoming everybody with no checks or balances for immigration, especially recently, we've opened ourselves up to our election processes, whether it be within the party, generally, provincially, federally, whatever. We've opened ourselves up.to our democracy, our election processes, our institutions being made a mockery of because we've brought people here who don't respect us, who don't respect what we do, and all they care about is power.Oops, did I just describe the federal liberal party? But now it's happening outside of their control, and they don't like it now.
It could be time.Could we all come together on this?Could we all come together?Doubt it.showing that the Ontario Liberal Party is saying, we investigated it, nothing to see here. But this is the thing, man.
China being brought up with Minister Zhou Li quite a bit today, and seeing her what she said in committee today to defend the deep ties we're developing with China, this is everything that's the problem with this federal party right now.
At the time where we're victim of a trade war by the US, Canada needs to be able to have a relationship with China that is stable, that is based also on agreement that we were able to ratify back in January. And meanwhile, we're protecting our sectors that are victim of US protectionism.
That's the Liberal Party in a nutshell right there, folks. We're a victim to American tariffs. It's happening to us.It's just so sad.Look at what they're doing to us.This is why people who watch this show
Canadians across this country, are getting increasingly impatient, frustrated, annoyed, and done with the system.Because it keeps propping up people like Zhou Li, who sit there in committee, crying about, oh, America, woe is me, while they cozy up to a dictatorship in China.Like, are you kidding me?Well, we need to have a stable relationship with China because America's doing stuff to us.It's exhausting to listen to.It really is.
And so it was nice to see someone like Raquel Doncho just tear her apart of like just reminding her, hey, look what China's done to us.If you want to start talking about being victims of things, look what China's done to us.They're not that great. We can work things out the US because at least we have similar values with China.

Was she wrong? They've leveraged tariffs on us, leveraged our farmers and agriculture on us for a long time. And that's just through the official channels.Should we get into the unofficial channels of the pressure they've put on our country, pressure they've put on our industry, through indigenous groups, through illegal purchases?Do we go there?Or are we going to talk about the official channels?
Because the official channels, it's egregious what they've done. But seeing them try to backdoor their way into our country using these indigenous groups to do it, and Julie, yeah, you've done nothing. There is a reason why people want you gone. It's because you're weak.and you keep defending the communist dictatorship of China. And right now, I'll be honest with you folks, we are in the dog days of politics right now.
These are just the days that you're reeling. And I can feel it.I see it in the comment sections.I see it on our live streams.I see it on social media.People are reeling right now.
They're tired. They want change, but they know that it's hard to get that change. So when I talk about situations like Igbo, things that are happening behind the scenes, they know that, okay, that's cool, but we're still months away at the earliest of anything happening. How do I get relief now?And that's a very real struggle for people.People need to be given hope.
People are struggling, some on fixed income, some just trying to get by with their jobs.Funny why Tim Hortons, oh, we're going to try and hire 10 ,000 new people, Canadians, because they know their brand is in the gutter as Dunkin Donuts looms over them.I see you guys.I see it.I know that you're frustrated.I'm I feel it with you.
I'm tired with you.And if you need to check out, check out for just a little bit.Take your time.Bring yourself together for sure.Protect your peace.but you have to reengage at some point or else they are just going to run away with this thing.
And as much as it's uncomfortable, we have to hold the conservative party to account as well, because if you want to see change, then you've got to start voicing what you want to see with those who can make change. That's why when we saw the whole thing go, I saw the whole blow up between a billboard, Chris and Jeff.Evely online.Jeff Evely is choosing to keep railing on Pierre Polyev, whereas Billboard Chris actually got a favorable response out of Polyev on the issue of transitioning children.Jeff Evely has decided to take the perspective of, there's no good you can do, I'm gonna keep telling you you're wrong.Billboard Chris has taken the perspective of, yeah, I disagree with how you've talked about things in the past, however, I'm going to give you the wins where you deserve them and let's work together to a solution.
There's a bounce. You got to call stuff out.You also got to be willing to work with people to get those things done.If they start moving to your position, we see the liberals aren't very interested in moving positions. We've seen that clear as day with Mark Carney. That's why pressure also needs to be applied to the conservative party to get them reinvigorated, get them more engaged with the battle again.
They're human too. They're probably tired too. They're demoralized too, but they also decided to take on their position of MP.They have to be leaders and fight.and give people hope once again. But anyways, I'll leave it there.
Have yourselves a good one.I'm out.
