Trigger warning: pardoned Jan. 6 defendants commit heinous new crimes
Lawyer Oyer
Hey everybody, I want to start with a trigger warning for content that is graphic and disturbing. This week the Justice Department announced that a 31-year-old man from Massachusetts named Daniel Tachi was sentenced to four years in prison for possessing over 100,000 videos and images depicting the sexual abuse of children. He also had what the press release describes as a collection of extremely disturbing images of violent acts. The specifics are so vile that I will not repeat them. Here's what DOJ's press
release does not mention. This was not Daniel Tachi's first brush with the law. Just last year he received a full pardon from Donald Trump for his role in the January 6th Capitol insurrection. Sadly, Tachi is not the first January 6th rioter to be convicted of an offense involving the sexual exploitation of children. In fact, he's not even the first one this month. Just a few weeks ago, Andrew Paul Johnson,
a 45 year old man from Florida, was sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing multiple children. He then tried to bribe the children to keep them quiet. Johnson was also pardoned by Donald Trump for his crimes on January 6. Also this month a 28 year old man named Brian Bettencourt was arrested for assault and battery near Washington DC after he repeatedly posted very creepy videos of himself stroking women's hair on the Metro. Bettencourt reportedly has a
history of stalking women and a prior conviction for violating an anti-stalking order. He was also pardoned by Donald Trump for his role in the Capitol insurrection. These are not the only Trump pardon recipients who have a documented history of abusing women and children.
I did some quick research and I found at least 22 different examples. At least nine pardon recipients have been charged or convicted with crimes involving the sexual abuse of children. At least five others have been charged or convicted of rape or sexual assault and at least eight more have a history of domestic violence, domestic assault, and or stalking. This is just what I found
readily in the public domain. So how could this happen? Well, Donald Trump pardoned these people without any vetting whatsoever, which is totally reckless and irresponsible, but I don't think he really cares. It is astounding that in just one month, March of 2026, at least three of Trump's pardon recipients have ended up back in court on charges of abusing women or children.
If this month is any indication for the future, we'll be seeing many more of If this month is any indication for the future, we'll be seeing many more of these cases. I'll be keeping a close eye on it and I'll keep you posted.
