S.Will there be a Kuzma deal?Welcome back to Moose and Loose. My name's David.Today, that is the topic here as Mark Carney's over in Ireland giving a speech.Justin Trudeau humiliating Canada.

0:15

Let's jump into this.Starting this episode off on the National Post, Conrad Black, if bitter enemies can bury the hatchet, there's hope yet for this country.and develop a respect for each other.I don't think that's what's going to happen here.Conrad Black being optimistic of the situation when in reality, Carney's over in Ireland right now.

0:55

This is what he has to say.say whether or not you're explicitly referring to Ireland in that speech and maybe if you could also expand on whether or not you think Ireland could be part of such a group going forward. And then a second question that I'd like to get the Taoiseach's response on as well.Do either of you believe that the Trump administration can realistically be a reliable trading partner ever again?

1:32

So yesterday Carney backtracked on this whole middle power thing and even though it's in his Davos speech he said the middle powers have to come together.

1:42

So, yes, I would include Ireland and did include Ireland, in my mind at least, in terms of those middle powers. And it's no accident that prior to the speech and then intensifying subsequently to thespeech that we have worked towards deepening the bilateral relationship.

2:04

So he just goes on to word salad here and him saying I did include Ireland in my mind he wasn't thinking about specific countries when he said that like let's get real.

2:12

So two minutes later he has this to say.Part of the first element with whom do we tend to band together on geopolitical issues, issues of values, issues of global development, climate change and others.Well, those like -minded countries and organizations are more likely to be the reliable partners in these strategic areas, if I can put it that way.So that is a very oblique answer to your last part of your question.

2:41

I mean, he basically just said, look, he's got a big smile on his face.He mentioned the C word change.Obviously, that's not the direction America is going. It sounds like he's taking a shot at Donald Trump here. They're not of the same values. This guy doesn't want to get a deal.

2:53

I mean, he said himself he's not good in peace times. It's almost like he has to create bad times because that's where he can push his agenda through. What kind of prime minister couldn't be good in peace times? That's when you could get the most done when you have big problems you have to focus on, let alone putting energy towards building an economy without major problems.Thinking back, it's a pretty dumb statement to say that he's not good in peace times, just goes to show that he wants to manufacture chaos because that's when he can roll through his agenda.

3:27

suggested a way forward.

3:29

So this clown goes on to praise what happened during the world event, which tells you everything you need to know. Not to mention you've got lunatics from Sudan trying to remove Irish citizens' noggins in the streets of Ireland. So I'm not surprised this guy's leading the country right now.

3:42

One of the best examples in recent times has been discovering the vaccine for COVID -19.That was actually an extraordinary moment of international collaboration and a race against time.

3:52

I'm pretty sure there's people, a lot of people, who would argue against that. And considering I've become incredibly allergic to a lot of foods since that time, and I will state for anyone out there who has a lot of allergies, if you eat a lot of different types of sauerkraut, it seems to make a big difference because it builds up your microbiome with different microbes. But moving ahead, this all ties together here with the Kuzma renegotiations. What are we looking at?People kicking soccer balls with their feet on these little tables.

4:21

So this is what they set up for FIFA, taxpayer money being spent on this ridiculous, you know, it's just a waste of money. And it's not just one table. You can see there's table after table here.People can play soccer with their feet. And why are we talking about FIFA?Because Justin Trudeau is embarrassing our entire country.

4:36

People don't like this guy.I mean, here he is getting booed, as he should be.So I'm glad the crowd is booing him because what did he do?You can see here, the American flag up in the top left here. The crowd here is just booing him because he's Trudeau. But he attended the American opening game versus the Canadian opening game and it gets worse.

5:04

And just to point that out, this is where it's at right now, 4 -1 for America versus Paraguay. Here they are in the stands. And this is the clip that's going viral. After America scores, there's Justin Trudeau celebrating with Katy Perry. It's quite the look for a guy who's demonizing America not more than a year ago as the Prime Minister of Canada, supporting Carney and the whole elbows up thing. And here he is, not prioritizing Canada, celebrating this American goal.

5:49

We've got the Kuzma Report.ongoing right now.And frankly, I think the World Cup, it's all crap. It's a waste of time.I mean, it's stuff like this. This sums it up right here.

Clearly the guy doesn't even touch him. It's not even close. And of course, what is it?It's a big dive.Oh, grabs his ankle. It's all the same thing in FIFA.

6:11

Oh, so painful.So painful.Grab the leg.Grab the leg.There it is.Grab the leg.

6:18

Oh, my ankle. This theatrics is embarrassing, meanwhile Trump saying maybe Kuzma won't be renegotiated.

6:39

does much better. We don't need anything that Canada has.

6:43

The Minister for Canada -U .S.Trade, Dominic LeBlanc, says they are making progress, but the opening of the long -awaited Gordie Howe Bridge is again being delayed. The bridge has been an issue for the President for some time.

6:54

At the request of the United States, we agreed to delay the opening.take the necessary time to resolve outstanding issues.

7:05

It's not great.Canadian game, supporting our Canadian team, especially during this time of renegotiation, it's not a good look.

7:40

some issues that have come up.

7:44

So what's been made of Trump's commitments to Kuzma? What could it mean for the long -awaited review deadline? That's July 1st.

7:51

It's like no negotiation that any of us have seen before.

7:54

And it does seem, Althea, as though the government understands that.I mean, there was nobody freaking out when Donald Trump said those things yesterday, because they've seen these kinds of things before.

8:07

Sorry, is that a question?Yes, I agree with you.I actually think, I mean, I disagree with the prime minister's categorization as, like, no grey drama.I think this is a grey drama.I think we would all love to be a fly on the wall and know what's going on.To Chantal's point, I'm not sure that there haven't been concessions.

8:25

I mean, a month and a half ago.Oh, there have been.

8:28

Exactly. No, no, there have been. But there were no, they did, they opened no door.

8:36

Well, I don't know that they didn't open any doors.Sorry, that's where I was going with that, because we had the prime minister a month and a half ago suggest that he was not going to concede anything to get to the negotiating table because he wanted—you know, the Americans were not abiding by the agreement themselves because of all these Section 232 tariffs. And now we have a very different tone. Now, we have Dominic LeBlanc telling the Eurasia Group today, for example, that he's had, you know, two one -hour conversations with Ambassador Greer. And again, you know, obviously, there's not going to be an announcement on July 1st about renegotiation. We should not panic.

9:13

In fact, Mexico has scheduled negotiations for after July 1st.So there should not be an announcement on July 1st.But there seems to be more traction, that it goes against perhaps the partisan dialogue that we heard earlier in the fall, earlier in the year, that is about, to use Doug Ford's words, building fortress North America.

9:37

I mean, Doug Ford now going down to America trying to build Fortress North America when he's the one who released that ad who caused a whole bunch of problems. You got Carney once again taking a jab today. You've got Justin Trudeau not supporting Canada during the World Cup here.I mean, what team are these guys on?They're not trying to get a deal. They're not trying to smooth things over.

9:59

On the one hand, of course, the ambassador is wrong. And Donald Trump is wrong when he says that the U .S.doesn't need anything.obviously does.Potash, for example.

10:11

Ambassador Hoekstra has talked about Canadian tourists. Please come back. And also, please include our alcohol on your shelves. But I do think that there is a change in tone. And I don't know if the concession of the Online News Act, for example, led to that change in tone or helped.kind of show some goodwill.

10:27

There's no way the tourists are going to come back.Sure, conservatives will go down there.Conservatives are already going down there. But the Liberals and NDP Canadians won't be going back down to America. And I don't think Trump really factored that in or probably doesn't even care, really. But for the long haul, that will be an effect on the American economy, specific sectors, you know, beach towns where Canadians would go resort and all that stuff.

10:48

But they mean they can put the stumbling juice back on the shelves. But really, the biggest leverage is if Carney said we're building a refinery in Alberta right now, he should have done that a year ago and approve a new pipeline, a couple of them, and start building those.Because then when we go into these negotiations, we have more leverage.Carney has positioned himself so we have less leverage. But then you look at him being 91 % invested in America.Who is he fighting for?

11:08

I mean, he's saying the same rhetoric today in Ireland, taking jabs at Trump and the Americans.I don't think he wants peacetimes. He doesn't want a deal. He's the one who said it.

11:16

He's worse in peacetimes. All the things that Althea lists are demands for more concessions. Please organize group tourists so they are forced to come to the U .S.Put booze on the shelves.I'm not hearing anything that talks about the U .

11:33

S.openness.But can we remind ourselvesat some point, one needs to keep score—that at this point last year, the prime minister believed that he would have resolved some of the main issues on the trade front. AndAnd then, when that didn't happen, it was supposed to happen on July 21, and then it was going to happen on August 1.So can we keep track of reality a year ago?

11:57

Optimism had deadlines.Today, it's got, wow, it's going well.We spoke for an hour.Yeah, yeah.

12:05

I mean, and so while I agree with her there, I mean, Dominic LeBlanc say, oh, we spoke for an hour, like, who cares? He's not getting a deal.It doesn't matter. The problem is, you know, these guys now are starting to call out Carney and the Liberals.Where were you guys a year ago? They have all the resources to look up anything about these guys.

12:20

They probably knew who Carney was and they supported him because they get money from the government. They're part of the problem, not part of the solution.Who did these people vote for?Anyone want to take a guess? Now jumping over to CTV, they've got a panel over here talking about the same thing.

12:32

And Carl, if you were advising him, You advise leaders. That's not necessarily a bad strategy to not inflame someone like Donald Trump who gets inflamed quite easily and lashes out in public and then what do we have?Like the Reagan ad is a good example of that where it kind of blew things up.Is it effective?I guess we don't know.

12:52

Well, we don't know until we have a bridge open and a deal when it comes to trade. And that's the issue for Mark Carney, is that he's going back and forth, you know, playing nice and going to the White House and showing, oh, I'm wearing this tie for you, Mr. President, that kind of thing. And of course, we know we're dealing with unserious people, because, you know, frankly, if there are issues with the bridge, We should know.Canadians deserve transparency. But because of the ego that's at play here, you can't afford that.A lot of eggshells, a lot of tiptoeing around.

13:25

And so he's being very careful because he can't afford it right now.But eventually...he needs to deliver. And he knows that. And in order for him to deliver, he needs to stroke.

13:41

I don't think he's stroking his ego the right way. He's doing everything possible to inflame the relationship.Sure, when he went there, he kissed Trump's butt and praised him and all that kind of stuff. But then when he leaves the White House, what does he do the exact opposite?

13:56

all that concerned about Donald Trump's feelings, even if the Prime Minister has to be.

14:00

That's very true. You're right. The Prime Minister absolutely has to be worried about his feelings. And this is kind of Trump's approach to these negotiations, is to throw something like a bridge out there that will completely throw off news cycles. It will throw off negotiations. It will force the people who are on the other side of the table to the Americans, whether it's the Canadians, and he does this with the Europeans as well, It'll force them to kind of recalibrate and that always gives him the advantage because he has them on their back foot.

14:30

So what's really important is for the Canadians to keep level heads about this. It's not really about the bridge. It's about a much larger agreement. There's also some smaller irritants that the Americans have been complaining about to the Canadians for a long time that they've wanted to see progress on.One of those the federal government actually introduced legislation today to deal with, which is around the need to crack down on imports to Canada from China that involve slave labor in the supply chain. And so the Canadian government has gone ahead and moved forward with legislation on that.

15:09

Sabrina, do you agree with that?Michael Chong was on the program just a few moments ago saying this is all about the Americans. He's been calling for this kind of action for five years and heard nothing until they threatened a tariff. And then all of a sudden we have a new bill.

15:22

I mean, I certainly think the speed at which the Carney government movesdefinitely seems like it is in response to the those new forced labor tariffs that we saw come out of the United States.

15:32

All this stuff is the border upgrades. All these things are coming from Donald Trump threatening Canada. And that's the sad truth of it.That's what it takes to make things move around here.

15:41

I just want to circle back to kind of like that posturing angle right now.Like I was, you know, I was thinking about this today as I think about Donald Trump.I'm talking about the Gordie Howell bridge piece as well as Donald Trump last week or earlier this week saying, you know, we don't need America. We don't need Canada. They need us more than we need anything like you think about his public posturing.I can count maybe on one hand in his time as president over the last eight years that he's actually been positive about something but his posturing is almost devoid from the actual negotiations often, right, or what ends up happening.

16:13

And you saw it a lot with the Middle East war.Every time he says something about Iran, oh, we've won, we've done this, we've done this, like whatever actually happens or the outcomes of that are completely different from his language. And so I think for the Canadians, it's, I think as Carl said, like we're dealing with unserious people. And I think for Mark Carney and for Dominic LeBlanc, Janice Charette, Mark Wiseman, the best thing that they can do is the thing that they're doing right now, which is to stay calm, to continue negotiations and to just say things are cordial and things are going well, because what else could they say?

17:08

opposite. He doesn't want good times for Canada. Now, to end this episode off on a lighter note, this came out maybe a few weeks ago. This is a guy taking a steel -held boat off a waterfall.

17:25

Onlookers watched as Dusty Friesen and his boat, named Dent, dropped to the bottom of the falls, which are near Pincher Creek. The 29 -foot drop was meant to break the record for a jump off the highest natural -flowing waterfall in a jet boat.RCMP and conservation officers are now investigating that jump.Friesen says he doesn't believe he...

17:44

Oh, please, investigating.Let the guy have his fun. This was epic. They know it.
