Trump’s Easter Post Has Lawmakers Questioning His Sanity
The Bulwark
Hey everybody, Tim Miller from the Bulwark here. Happy Easter, Hoppy Easter. For those of you who watched my stream last week, you can still go watch the tape if you haven't yet. I bimbofied myself to answer the poll question. My daughter was very happy that the Easter Bunny came this morning. So I appreciate the poll feedback on whether the Easter Bunny should come or not, if you get my drift. She's a happy girl this morning. Hopped up on sugar. I wanted to run through some news items because
there's just too much out there to ignore for the morning. Obviously we're gonna focus on the deranged, deranged Easter morning post from the President of the United States. I do just want to highlight the good news from the ex-fill of the airman who was shot down over Iran. It's going to make for a crazy movie someday. Apparently, we managed to build an airstrip inside Iran. The pilot evaded capture for I believe something around five miles.
He climbed a mountain, activated his homing beacon. US forces had to fire on a bunch of Iranian forces that were chasing him, tracking him. Then we got him out. There were some problems getting him out.
We ended up having to send a second group in. Then we got them out, there were some problems getting them out.
We ended up having to send a second group in. They exfiltrated them. We had to blow up our own equipment, which is pretty expensive. But thank God the airman is alive. More from this from Hertling on just how complicated a plan like this is in the next 24 hours but I did want to mention it before we got to the dark parts of the news so Trump this morning posts on
social media down Trump bleats this to Tuesday will be power plant day in bridge day all wrapped up in one in Iran there will be nothing like it open the fucking straight you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in hell. Just watch. Praise be to Allah, President Donald Trump." There's a lot of people who did not believe it was real initially for good reason, because it is insane. Chris Murphy, Senator from Connecticut, posted that 25th Amendment proceedings should be beginning as a result of this
tweet. In case there are any questions about, you know, lucidity, whether somebody took his phone, the president talked to Trey Yankst at Fox News as well on the phone. I'm gonna play a little bit of Trey describing what happened on his phone call with the president.
I just spoke with President Trump for 15 minutes. He gave me some new details on the negotiations behind the scenes with the Iranians and what's going to happen if Iran does not make a good faith deal. The president tells me if they don't make a deal and fast, I'm considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil. The president went on to say you're going to see bridges and power plants dropping all over their country. Now I asked him about the possibility of an agreement with the Iranians. He says those who are negotiating on
behalf of Iran have been granted amnesty at this time so they can continue the talks and the president tells me he thinks he'll be able to get a deal by tomorrow. He says, I think there's a good chance tomorrow they're negotiating now.
You can hear he reiterated the plan to bomb Iran to hell, bomb their energy production facilities, bomb bridges, make a country of 90 some odd million people uninhabitable. That's the plan that the president is pushing forth. It's truly deranged, obviously, for a number of reasons. In 2022, it was the United States that was talking about how Russia's targeting of energy grids in Ukraine was a war crime. I'm going to pull up this story. Pentagon on Wednesday slammed Russia's barrage of missile
strikes across Ukrainian cities and said that Moscow's deliberate targeting of energy infrastructure is a war crime This was Mark Milley commenting about this in 2022 The deliberate targeting of civilian power grid because the excessive collateral damage and unnecessary suffering on the civilian population is a war crimes this is the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs just about three and a half years ago now,
talking about how the thing that our current president is planning to do is a war crime. So, if we go forward with this, the United States will have officially, if it had not already happened, become Russia. Become the ones that do not care about international law, are happy to commit war crimes. The other elements to this obviously are like in addition to even if you are in the Pete Hegseth camp of thinking war crimes are cool, like the results of this, who the hell knows, even if Iran was to come to the table and Trump says there, I don't know why we would believe him, but he says that he thinks he might be able to get a deal, even if he is
to get a deal, if it comes after an attack of that nature and what you're gonna do is create untold numbers of refugees, the refugee crisis spilling out into Europe, into other parts of the Middle East, terror attacks, you know, coming back on us, certainly. The possibility of that would be increased. The risk of that would be increased.
Retaliation, retaliatory attacks. And we're already seeing Iran make these kinds of attacks on the infrastructure of other countries. Qatar's water salination plant was attacked last night. Bahrain had an energy facility that was hit. So I think the potential for this to just spiral
in ways that are unpredictable but horrifying is pretty large as the president goes forward with us. We should mention that he has made this threat several times already. We're now in our, I think, fourth 48 hour period. I did a video yesterday with Sarah where he was threatening 48 hours. Just some quick math there, that would have taken us to Monday.
So now he's kind of extended the deadline another 24 hours. So you know, who knows? Maybe this is empty threats. But, you know, I think that the scale of the alarm is real. And the potential for Donald Trump to feel backed into a corner and forced to do something like this, I think it's pretty high. And, you know, again, the fact that we rescued these pilots that were down in Iran is such an amazing story
and such a tribute to our military and the skilled people that are on the operations side of our Department of War. Like the problem is not on the operations side. Like we obviously have a very capable military. Unfortunately, they're led by clowns and buffoons.
And so you get concerned that Trump sees something as successful as this mission to, you know, get the airmen out of Iran and that emboldens him again, like the Venezuelan op emboldened him to say, hey, okay, well, shit, we can go try more stuff. Maybe we can go into Isfahan

Get started freeto get the fissile material, right? Like, who knows exactly what comes next? But I do think that there is an emboldening element to this. One other thing I do want to mention, I don't. This is not conspiracy land. If you if you are following
a content creator or a YouTube feed that was giving you, is Trump dead content over the past four days, you should think twice about where you're getting your information. Donald Trump is not dead. He's an old man though, and we're in the middle of a war, that's pretty noteworthy that they called a lid yesterday on public statements at 11 a.m. And Trump hasn't been in public since midweek.
I mean, we're taping this right now, Sunday morning. You know, maybe we'll see him out today. He's such a faithful Christian. I'm sure we'll see him at Easter mass, right? Won't we see him at Easter mass? We'll see, we'll see. an interesting thing to wonder will Trump have the Trump go to Easter mass this morning um so you know
maybe we'll see him but there is I think reason to you know wonder about the mental status of a president who is not making who is often out a lot by the way and now is not making statements in public. He's doing phone calls for, you know, three, four days at a time. And he's posting to a social media feed just absolutely wheels off lunacy about sending Iran back to hell for an objective that's still unclear. Like why would we do that? Like the objective, I guess, for sending them back to hell is opening the straight.
That's what he says.
The objective now is open the straight or we're going to send you back to hell. You fucking lunatics. It's the president's statement. It's like, well, the straight opening wasn't even part goalposts all over the place. I thought the only the point here was was to eliminate their ICBMs and Eliminate their Navy and their Air Force and go after their nuclear capabilities like now they have to open straight So I he doesn't know what he's doing. He's making apocalyptic threats and
He's not out in public That's a pretty concerning combination for me. Last thing is just worth mentioning about his post this morning, the ending with praise be to Allah. I can understand why some on the right like that. It's just a troll. It's obviously a troll.
And the Iranians have been trolling us. They've been doing a little Lego motion videos, making fun of Trump and Hegsef. And so it's a troll back insulting their faith and their religion. And he's basically saying kind of, hey, we're going to bomb the fuck out of you. Praise be to Allah.
Good luck in the afterlife. And I think that it is gross and inappropriate for a president of a pluralistic society with a lot of Muslims in this country, peaceful Muslims live in this country. I don't know that their faith needs to be part of a troll that our president is doing against the Iranians as part of the war of choice that he started. I don't think that that's right.
I think that's a wrong message to a lot of people who are Americans in this country. And then I also, as I just mentioned earlier, I just think it increases the risks of retaliation. It's the type of thing that radicalizes somebody. And also it's not really in the Easter spirit, I guess I should just say. So that's that. We'll keep an eye on all this. an Easter spirit, I guess I should just say. So that's that.
We'll keep an eye on all this. I'm gonna go out to the Easter parade here in New Orleans with my daughter. So we'll see what the news brings. If there's something that we need to talk about, we'll be back Sunday evening.
And if not, I'll see you back here tomorrow with Bill Kristol. Appreciate you all very much. Happy Easter. Happy Easter.
Peace. We'll see you
