Watch 'monster' funeral director's angry reaction to being arrested
This is the reality of a funeral home where the remains of 35 people were found. For the first time, this police footage shows us inside the building where so -called monster funeral director Robert Bush committed his crimes. He prevented lawful burial and committed fraud by failing to properly care and return ashes to families. At each court appearance, Robert Bush has covered his face. But now, new footage lets us watch exactly how Bush reacted when he was arrested. And grilled by police.
This is how a criminal enterprise that disregarded basic human dignity was finally stopped. Here's the moment back in March 2024, when police officers stormed a plane after it touched down at Heathrow Airport. After he landed from the US, police arrested Robert Bush on suspicion of prevention of a lawful and decent burial, fraud by false representation and fraud by abuse of position. It's because while Bush was out of the country, they had been investigating his company, Legacy Independent Funeral Directors, after being contacted about potential wrongdoing.they'd got into the legacy building. This is what they found.
But beyond the disorder, the mess and the grime, the disregarded family donations, police discovered human remains.Boxes of ashes linked to as many as 163 families and 35 dead.
The police took Bush in for questioning.
This is what happened the day after. The interviewer references Bush's reply to being arrested on the plane at Heathrow.
The whole thing has been a crescendo of poor choices.
Then they ask about the specifics. How was Robert Bush treating bodies when they came into his care?
So, body storage again.Your auditing system, unless you tell me otherwise from what you've said in your previous account, is that it's all pretty much in your head?It is, unfortunately. You acknowledge that guidance from your association says you should keep some form of written or electronic record, but you don't?No.
Yeah.
And I think you said that you identified bodies, literally, from the wristband? And at the point the police became involved in this investigation, just tell me how many people, or how many bodies, sorry, was in your storage facility? How many is quite a lot, approximately, if you don't know?A good 30.
It transpires that Bush has been keeping bodies for 11 months.
And what kind of date range, out of the 30 or so bodies within your storage facility, by date order, what is the oldest one?I know there's one that goes back to, I think it's April.April of what year, sorry?Last year.April 23?Yeah.
So, out of these 30 or so bodies, I'm appreciative that a number of them are still going through that process where family are still paying, waiting for their loved ones to be buried, or cremated, sorry is more appropriate. But how many out of these 30 or so bodies Did the client, the family, believe that they've been buried or cremated and they are still actually sat within your storage facility? All of them but the five or maybe six.So we're talking, what, somewhere in the mid -twenties in number, at least?Okay. So, now that we know that as a very approximate number, what is it you've told their families, those families that relate to those bodies?
Okay.Out of these families, 25 or roughly whatever number we're talking about, how many of you have given ashes to?Have you given any ashes?
Because obviously, if they believe their loved one's been cremated and you've given them ashes when they haven't actually been cremated, how have you gone through the process of getting them into an urn with their name on it and then giving said urn to them, Rob?
To justify his decisions, Robert says this.
and what reason did you have for not cremating them when you should have cremated them?

Bush doesn't even know who was responsible for regulating his funeral home.
And seems to find that amusing.
He admits there had been no recent inspections of his company.
As for what he told the families... have had services and believed that their loved ones have been cremated. Now, ultimately, that isn't the case.I just want to be very clear in my head, I understand that, so there will be families that have gone through a service, believed their loved ones were cremated, would you then have provided them with some ashes after that?
Generally, I would reunite the right people with the right ashes.Right, that's what I'm trying to get at really.Yeah, yeah. But not everybody comes back. It's quite common to leave time, so it's been when people have maybe made inquiry about it that we've made sure that people have gone and come back again.
But again, it's that question again, the ones that was cremated late or haven't been cremated at all.How did you get the ashes to someone who hasn't been cremated to the family?I'm going to say no comment on that. And what I need to ask you is, have you used somebody else's ashes to give to another family member, to give to a different family to say that's your loved one?I'm going to say no comment on that.Or if you haven't done that, what product or item is within that urn that they believe is their loved one's ashes?
I've never given ashes back that weren't ashes. So it's always going to be human ashes?Human ashes, yeah.
The investigation continued and then, several months later, Bush received this knock at the door.
I don't understand.I'm not an international, but I've been arrested off a plane by gunpoint.I've been taken out. It's like I'm Che Guevara or something.I'm not that complicated. And I've said so many times, let me help you unravel what it is. I'll come in and talk to you.
It feels vindictive, the way this has been done.I mean, just the whole, the way it's been worked.
Police were arresting him again and took him in for more questioning. This time he didn't want to speak. He chose to have a solicitor give a statement on his behalf. The next day, he is questioned again. And this time, when he speaks, there is one phrase he keeps repeating. He refuses to explain the fate of one family's money.
Okay, tell me what happened to that money. No comment.Explain how you dissented to the charity.
Despite bank statements showing spending on supermarkets and cars.
You've gone to Tesco and spent £136.Is that to do with funeral costs or made payments?lot of payments to DVLA for vehicles.
In April 2026, Robert Bush pleaded guilty to 67 charges, including preventing a lawful and decent burial after remains.Victims' families say their loved ones were disposed of like a piece of litter. One woman whose unborn baby was sent to legacy funerals for cremation has said she was absolutely distraught to learn that the ashes she received were more likely a mix of adult and animal remains. It's below the belt.
There's people out there that didn't get any ashes and I got given somebody's animal.
This week, Bush is being sentenced. The extent of his crimes means the sentencing is taking five days.
