Why bashing Canada plays so well to Trump’s MAGA base

When Trump goes off about Canada, there is a certain part of his MAGA base that is really in tune with it.And it's something that I've noticed when I've gone out.I've done a lot of Republican base sort of stories to get a sense of how people are feeling.Go to North Carolina, go to Texas, go to other places, and you sort of have the conversations and you introduce yourself.Say, I'm a reporter from Canada.We're here to do a story about X. I'm wondering if we could get your opinion about something.

and they'll bring up Canada.They usually bring up a few things.One, They bring up the convoy protest in Ottawa because it is something they got picked up within the alt -right sphere in America, particularly when the Canadian federal government was freezing bank accounts.The other thing that has come up more recently is the Alberta separation movement and that they, one gentleman I interviewed referred to Albertans as snow Texans and saying, we welcome the snow Texans, please join us.And we're, we're very open to that.So there is within a certain pocket of the United States demographic, particularly within the MAGA movement, where they see Canada as a place where people's rights and freedoms are being trampled on, where they think that people in Canada need help or to be liberated, and it helps when Donald Trump beats up on Canada, they certainly don't take issue with it, and it sort of reinforces that.

You know, Canada bashing is not going to lose Trump any votes, right?No, no, no.And so he gets to look tough, look strong, look like he's carrying out his terror -first economic policies, agenda, with relatively little repercussions for them.Consequence -free, right.Exactly.And it rolls up the base.

It can get people a bit supported.Absolutely.
