This is an unusually large dip.We don't normally see voters' attitudes towards politicians that have the name recognition that Pauline Hanson does drop this much.We didn't explicitly ask voters why they might have changed their vote or their views of the party leaders over the last month. But what we What we did do is we did ask voters what the news story was that they'd heard the most of in the past week before they'd done the survey. And a large number, about a fifth, mentioned either Pauline Hanson or One Nation as the news story that they'd heard the most of in the last week. And what was really interesting was a lot of them specifically referenced her National Press Club address or topics that were covered by the address or the subsequent media coverage.
So things like paid parental leave and her comments that she wants Australia to be a monocultural society or country did come up repeatedly. Now we can't obviously prove that that was the driver because we weren't specifically asking people why they changed their views, but it is interesting that about a fifth of voters saw that as the news story they'd seen the most coverage of, which we don't see a lot of Australian political issues quite get that level of salience in this question. So it stands to reason that that may have been an important part of what drove this shift.Pauline Hanson is still more popular than Anthony Albanese. So negative 10 is her net favorability.compared to negative 18 for Albanese.
So she's still a good eight points ahead of him in terms of net favorability. So an improvement for Albanese relatively, but he's still a long way behind. And Paul Enhansen is now, you would say statistically even with Angus Taylor, who's negative nine.So Albanese personally does have some ground to make up relative to both Angus Taylor and Pauline Hanson.I would say that the One Nation brand is strongly tied to Pauline Hanson herself. In the past, not this month, but in the past, we have asked voters why they are voting for One Nation, those that are planning to give One Nation their first preference vote, and a large share of them specifically mentioned Pauline Hanson.
So she is certainly a major factor in driving One Nation support and a decline in her favorabilities certainly will impact One Nation's vote intention too.
