Where did the idea of playing cricket come from? Our family background wasn't so good that we got everything. My father was very fond of cricket.

0:10

So that thought came actually from him.

0:15

And then all those stories that you used to sell, all of that is true? Yes, no work is small or big. Do you ever feel that people misunderstand you? A lot of people have said a lot of things. That I can never do anything.

0:29

I'll be finished. He'll play today, he won't play tomorrow. Do you feel that aggression is important for a player? 100% important. I do feel that I'm the best.

0:45

What are you currently changing about yourself? I want to be fitter. 100% necessary. 100% necessary. I do feel that I am the best.

0:48

What are you currently changing about yourself? I want to be more fit. I want to work harder. I want to be a captain. What's your next dream? To win the World Cup. Tell me top 3 toughest bowlers.

0:59

I play only by looking at the ball. It doesn't matter who the bowler is.

1:02

No, it never matters.

1:12

You were playing a game and the senior pointed out that you should focus on this.

1:13

I was on the short leg. I jumped quickly. I was like, oh my God.

1:17

I knew that I was going to get scolded. What was that between you and Stark? Stark was trying to say something to me. But I said, ball does come slow. That's why I couldn't hit otherwise it would have gone.

1:37

Coming too slow.

1:39

Has the result of the game changed by sledging? Like the Qantas. He was talking, consistent.

1:44

That helps.

1:49

Who sledges the most?

1:50

I haven't been sledged in England.

1:52

Somebody called me bloody villagers. I'll give you four or five shots. Which one comes to mind first?

1:58

Are you dating me? No There are so many photos going viral about you At the age of 11, a kid came to Mumbai to play cricket He used to live in a tent After practice, he used to do odd jobs like a panipuri seller. And today at the age of 23, he is India's opener. Today our guest is Yashaswi

2:32

Jaiswal. Today we will learn from him how visualisation techniques helped him to play for India since childhood. How? Because he was from a humble background, people insulted him. Why was the U-19 World Cup the turning point of his career? How does he balance self-belief and aggression? And how did he develop such a resilient mindset and hunger that he doesn't care about anything else other than his game? Just like hunger is necessary in life and cricket to win,

3:40

You're 23 years old. Yeah. So 23, team and team,

3:44

you're a team leader. You are 23 years old. So, 23, Team India, IPL, Cricket, Glamour. Life is, from a distance, it seems like for a lot of people that this is life of dreams. And I know 90%, when does this life come? Discipline, Tour, Competition, we don't even know when we'll be able to go on a discipline tour or a competition. But 10% of the time, this is a sportsman's life, right? Glamour. So, a lot of 23-year-olds will party, have fun, enjoy their fame, stardom, be at the right places with the right people. Doesn't it attract you?

4:29

No, I don't think so. I don't think like that.

4:45

because you're already very intense there. You have a routine, you follow it a lot. Then when you come back, I try to stay at home with my family. But of course, all these things are very... Sometimes if you don't control your mind, it will go there. That is, which I feel is very normal. When you come from those kind

5:06

of environment and you see those environment it's very easy to go with that. But how I bring myself back to focus, how I'm coming back again and for starting, how I'm coming back and I'm starting that I do start telling myself, okay, now what I need to do and what I'm looking forward to and how I'll be focused because I feel this is all about discipline and I do believe a lot in discipline, my routines and I want to be focused. I wanna do things which is important for me and important for my game and how I can take my game forward as well.

5:50

So I do spend some time, I do take a lot of time for me. So I go out, like, if I'm, suppose if I'm in UK or if I'm somewhere out, I will go and I see the world. I love going into the nature. I want to go and see the ocean. I want to go see mountains. I love doing that. I will go for big mountain walk, big mountain run. So I do want to go. If I want to go, I want to go there. I want to see different country, different culture.

6:30

So...

6:31

That's fun. That's a lot of fun for me. If I'm going out somewhere, I've been to India, or there are a lot of beautiful places in India where you go and you don't feel like, I want to see this, I want to see that.

6:42

So I do all that, I like it a lot. Where was the most exciting place you've ever been to? I just went to Mallorca. So clean water, so clean water. I was like, wow!

6:56

I had never seen such clean water. So, there I had gone to a very deep water. I wanted to go to the water. Then I felt once, it was too deep. So, I told myself that I wanted to jump into the water.

7:11

So, I was like... I wanted to jump. I was a bit nervous. But I wanted to jump into the water. It was very deep but it was very clean. So, I did it and I was like... When I did it, actually, I was very happy.

7:24

But did you jump wore a life jacket and jumped?

7:25

No, no, just like that. I can swim but I am still if you are in the ocean you just get nervous a bit. So I wanted to go and explore how I feel when it's very deep. So that was fun.

7:38

Nice.

7:39

Do you actually get scared after getting in the water? No actually my heart was little bit there. But I was enjoying it. I did it. I wanted to try. So, it was a good experience. Nice. So, that was the good place that you last went.

7:57

Yeah, where I last went after the England tour.

8:01

So, I had some days. So, I wanted to go and see. But these parties don't attract you?

8:06

No, they don't attract me.

8:08

Not from the start? Not from the start. Because I have never seen it from the start. So, I never felt like going. And then I know what is important for me to put my focus in. So, I know how I need. Because as a sportsman, I know that I have to be very disciplined on my routines.

8:26

I have to be very disciplined on my sleep as well. So I want to stay in bed as soon as possible when I'm playing specially test matches. So I love doing those things which can give me little bit which can help me to improve my game. So, I always think like that and I always believe in those routines and those... Nice. You know, structure-wise, how you do your daily days.

8:55

So, that I do a lot. Fair. Tell me your origin story. Very basic. Day one, first time I held a cricket bat. Where did you get the idea to play cricket? The idea... We used to play like this at home.

9:11

My dad was very fond of cricket. So, he still loves cricket. So, when we were watching one cricket game, Sachin sir was batting for India. So, my father... And he made a India. So, my father, and he made a century. So, my father gets very excited.

9:28

He is like, wow, what a batting. Very much, I mean, big fan. So, then I was very happy seeing him happy. So, I want, then he said, Papa, I want to be, I want to play for India. So, he says, yes, you will. If he can do it, you can also do it.

9:47

So, that thought came actually from him.

9:50

Because you wanted to make your father happy.

9:52

Yes.

9:52

Okay.

9:53

So, I thought, yes, I can do it too. So, then I started and I started playing and I used to enjoy playing a lot. How old were you? I was very young. Like, I don't exactly remember. Four, five, six types. Yes, something like that. But I used to love cricket.

10:11

I just, it's just pure love. Where I do enjoy a lot playing cricket and I'm just playing.

10:19

Okay.

10:20

So, wherever you just tell me, okay, go and play, I'll play the whole day. So, I you just tell me, okay, go and play, I'll play the whole day. So, I'll be fine.

10:27

So, that is what it was.

10:29

Okay. So, that's when you started first time. Was your father strict about cricket? He always supported me. He used to say, son, keep working hard. Do your work with honesty.

10:41

You work when no one is watching you. You work hard when no one is watching you. So, these were the things in my mind that I have to work hard and I have to work hard with honesty for myself. That should satisfy me. So wherever I used to go to bed, I used to visualize myself that I am playing for India. I am making centuries and I want to be in that noise. I used to feel noise.

11:06

I still feel like when I close my eyes and I can see and I can hear the noise which you feel when you go inside the stadium. So I do feel that. When I close my eyes, I can hear my name, Jaiswal, Jaiswal. So that I have been doing since I'm kid. If you see there is one movie, Iqbal, right?

11:30

There is one moment when he go and he sits into the small house where he sit and he just used to visualize and hear the noise. So that small thought stuck in my head. So I started feeling that. So when you actually feel that and visualize it, I do believe it happens and it will happen always. So you visualize, you are a big believer of visualization. I do, I visualize a lot, I meditate a lot, I believe that whatever you think, whatever you say, that's very important

12:06

how you talk to yourself because I talk to myself a lot other than anyone else.

12:12

At what age did you first visualize, give me a random age? Very young, suppose I was playing Harry Schill's trophy. Give me age. 11 years. Okay 11 years. So 11 years old Yashasvi Jaiswal.

12:26

Yeah.

12:27

Right.

12:28

Who has no idea about the competition in India, what is required to play in India, how does it feel to play in India? You have no idea. You don't know this, right? There is a belief that I will play. I have to play at a certain level.

12:41

Now you are going to bed. And what are you visualizing before going to bed? I don't have to think about all this. What do I have to think about? I only have one thing in my mind. I want to play for India. That's it. I will try my best for the rest.

13:00

But what was the image you had?

13:01

That I'm playing. I'm hearing the sound. I'm making a century.

13:07

So, that is the only thought I can see.

13:10

Everything.

13:11

You can see yourself in the stadium. And that was your visualisation as an 11-year-old? Yes. I do visualise that I was scoring in Perth. I was visualising that I am scoring a century in Oval. So, those stuff happened. When I was playing IPL last to last year,

13:29

so then after that I knew that I'm going to go Perth. But I was visualizing that when I go to Perth, I make sure I score 100. So, my preparation had happened since I was playing IPL. One time I was playing in Rajasthan and somebody told me like in Australia you need to play new ball well, right? So and

13:53

you need to leave the bounce. So all the time when I was practicing, when I was leaving I was expecting and visualizing also that that when I play there these ball I need to leave. So that's how I was thinking it when I was playing in England my thought was different my visualization was different where I go and how I play so I think I do believe a lot means if you really believe it it will happen and things happened with me in my life which I have seen it and I have literally I can play the game so many times in my mind when I go there I feel I have been already here.

14:32

So, that is the feeling which I had especially. I am a big believer of visualization. Same I think whatever is happening I used to visualize it from before and I used to visualize it from the beginning and keep it written. Yes, my diary, every year I have made a diary that 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and if you read my diary, what I have done, everything is written. Means not everything but there is a lot of things which is written in it. Nice. So, that is one few things which I have done it that I have write my notebooks because I wanted to talk to myself and there are a lot of people that you think that you can talk to them but sometimes you realize that you should not.

15:21

It's better talk to yourself and write things in the book because book will never judge you.

15:28

It will always listen.

15:30

But who taught you this in 11 years? I told you, the same thing. That you could do it from your heart. When I saw that in it, when you are young, you don't know what is right or wrong. But you start seeing something that you like.

15:46

So I tried to do a few things. And then I started listening to a lot of things. Like I was trying to work on my brain. When I read or see anything, people say that cricket, everyone says like, this is 80% mental game, right? A lot of people say that. But how many people actually work mentally? So, I wanted to work mentally. I wanted to be, I want to be very strong mentally. And I am, I feel I am very strong mentally. So, that is what I always believe and I always look, I always, I mean I always look at what

16:32

things can make me mentally strong and how I can become very strong mentally. So, a lot of things have happened in my life so far that already make me strong. Like? Like I started my life, how I played and where I stayed and how I improved my cricket. Talk about that. Tell me, in 11 years?

16:58

So, like you said, I didn't know what was happening here. I just knew one thing, that I wanted to play for India. And I would do anything for that. Our family background was not good enough to get everything. And I understand that by looking at you. So, I knew that I had to work hard and play. So, I came to Mumbai and started living with my uncle for a while.

17:38

How old were you when you came to Mumbai? I was very young.

17:41

I have lived here all my life.

17:43

11-12 years? I would have been younger. 19-20 years.

17:46

Yes.

17:47

So, when I came here, I used to think about how I would practice, where I would live, what I would do. So, in the beginning, I used to live with my uncle for a few days. Then I got the opportunity to live in a tent. So, there is a club called Muslim United there. I wanted to play a match and I wanted to do well. I did well.

18:13

Then they gave me a chance to stay there. That I could stay there. So, for me, at that time, the most important thing was that I was on the ground and I was playing. So, I was very happy actually. That I that I was getting a chance to play all day. I will play well. I have a good chance to practice well. I will be in the cricket environment.

18:38

I had only one thing in mind at that time.

18:40

That I have to play cricket well.

18:41

And then all those stories that you used to sell water puris, cleaning the ground, all of that is true? Yes, all those stories, you used to sell pani puri, clean the ground, all of that is true? Yes, all of that is true.

18:47

Because I have done it there.

18:49

What did you do? Tell me. Like, you live there, so suppose, on Sunday, some food is made, so four people from there come.

18:57

Your family becomes the same for some time. So you live with them. So, they told me to come and help me. They asked me what I do after practice. I used to finish practice at 6 or 7. They used to go there from 7 to 10.

19:14

I used to go to them. They used to get work, I used to get work, I used to get some money. I used to do like this. I didn't have any particular reason. My life was the same at that time. And it's okay.

19:28

I don't have any particular work. Whatever work you are doing, do it with your heart.

19:35

That's all that matters.

19:37

So, what did you do? I used to sell pani puri.

19:41

And what else?

19:42

And apart from pani puri, that was the main core job? I used to sell pani puri. And what else? And apart from pani puri, that was the main core job? I used to do that. And there used to be marathons. So, I used to get a lot of people to drink water. I used to make wickets. So, I used to do all these things.

19:56

So, you used to do whatever work you got. Yes, no problem. Did your family know about it? I didn't tell him a lot of things, what I used to do.

20:05

I used to say, I'm good, I'm playing, I'm happy.

20:08

Because he didn't want to see this struggle. No, I don't want to bother him.

20:13

Why?

20:14

Why? Of course, who would like that? But you can tell your family that you do this used to tell him that I was playing well. He was far away, so he would feel a little bit. He is my parents. Did you ever feel that you couldn't do it?

20:33

No. I mean... I felt it a couple of times. But my nature is that I can't do it.

20:43

When did you feel it? I was young then. What did you feel that? I was young then. What did you feel? That what will happen? Then my dad said,

20:49

son, you have a shop, why are you getting tensed? You keep playing. Whatever happens, will be good.

20:56

But did you ever feel scared that maybe there is so much competition?

21:00

No.

21:01

Is my game good or not? I always had faith in myself that I would do it.

21:06

In yourself?

21:07

Yes.

21:08

And where did this belief come from? Did anyone else play cricket at the Indian level at home? No, I have this belief in me that I can do it. If I try, I can do it. So I try that I will try my best to do it. So I have this one thought that I have to do it. So I have this thought that I have to do it.

21:29

So, I'll give you an example. I was playing an U-19 match. In Sri Lanka, our U-19 was an India match. So, at that time, I was batting 4th. I'm actually an opener. So, at that time, they were giving me a four-number.

21:48

I got out in two matches. So, I thought that maybe I will miss my U19 India. So, if you go with an Indian team, you get invited to an embassy. So, you go there as a representative of the country. So, I met a colonel there. So, he asked me, when you send your soldiers to war, what do you say?

22:16

So, I said, I say to my soldiers, you will do it. When I went back home, I was thinking all night that you will do it. When I went back home, I mean, to the hotel, I was thinking all night that I will do it. Ashish Kapoor was our selector. So, I told him, sir, that I want to open. If I get a chance, he said, okay. He gave me the opening and I scored a hundred.

22:41

Nice.

22:42

So, that was a changing moment of my career. Because when I started opening from there, I kept playing and I became an opener. So, I think that was a very important part of my life and it changes from there. But what came to your mind?

23:02

Because if you get out in two matches, then there is more pressure. So, you are a little scared. So, you said that you will open from the fourth and then hit and then tell the selector, big mistake. What changed in your mind? What was the difference?

23:20

Because I was looking for opportunity. Maybe I dropped two matches after that. Because they thought I was getting out. But I told them, if they wanted to give me a chance,

23:35

they should give it to me.

23:36

I wanted to bat higher. I knew I could do it. So, I had that belief. And that thought of that I will do it. So, when I got the opportunity, I had in my mind that I want to do it. So, I did it.

23:51

So, I was that day when I came and I saw myself in the mirror, I was like, wow, well done. So, that sort of things I do a lot with myself, coming, watching myself in the mirror. I did a very good performance or I did a lot of things with myself, like coming, watching myself in the mirror. I do a good performance or I do a bad performance. I come and talk to myself for 10-15 minutes. So, that helps me a lot. When I do a good job, I tell myself that I did a good job.

24:19

Now, how do I do it further? There was a paragraph I was reading. And the day I decided to do a podcast, I wrote that I will ask in the podcast. Because you are one of those players which is emotional.

24:38

I am.

24:39

Right? There is... When you go to the field, there is a level of anger, aggression, fun, arrogance, attitude, belief, self-belief. And it talks about a lot of people and this paragraph is one of my favorites every time I'm in the battle. It says that humility wins you friends, arrogance wins you friends. Arrogance wins you championships.

25:07

The paradox is the society praises humility,

25:11

but history remembers arrogance.

25:15

Like when Muhammad Ali, long time ago, when he was not a big shot,

25:17

he declared, I am the greatest.

25:22

Kobe Brandt, he used to demand that if the ball goes to anyone, I will be the one to shoot the last shot. Virat Kohli. Looking straight and staring down at the bowlers and telling them he's going to win and showing that aggression. So, where do you stand? Do you think arrogance is a requirement?

25:40

I won't say it's arrogance.

25:42

But you know, it's all about the matter. I'm sure when you're playing, when you're in the middle, where when that stark ball is coming at 140, 145, 150, then it's not a game. Then it's India versus Australia. It's you versus Stark.

25:58

It's you versus the fastest bowler in the world. It's a game of... It's a game of aggression. It's a game of belief versus belief. Absolutely. That I have come to break. You can put as much strength as you have. That is a thought which goes on.

26:12

The game is made later that it was just a game. Win or lose, it doesn't matter. But when you are in that, it's a game of aggression, right? It is aggression. Then you are thinking funny. It's a game of aggression, right? It is aggression. You don't think of fun then. But then, that time I think what is important for my team. Aggression is there but I want to do it as per team demands as well.

26:35

So, I have aggression inside me. I keep myself there. But at that time, it is also important for need to know how I play. I don't want to get lost in that. I know what is important for my team, what I need to do. But I want to be there. And I want to be there.

26:58

So that is what I feel. But do you feel that aggression is important for a player? It's 100% important. Very important.

27:05

It's very important for me.

27:06

But...

27:07

Does it help you? It helps a lot. Then why make fun of it? If anger helps, why not?

27:11

But you shouldn't look at it.

27:12

It should be inside you.

27:13

What is inside me.

27:14

Because there is a slight difference between confidence and overconfidence. Explain what the difference is. I can be confident. What is the difference between confidence and overconfidence? Explain what the difference is. I can be confident. I will do it. This is overconfidence.

27:30

What I feel. But I feel I can do it. So that is what I see it. And I always think if I do it, then what will happen? So I always think that any game I'll play, whatever I play, for me, it's an opportunity. So I always think that I will play any game. For me, it's an opportunity.

27:46

I always think that I have an opportunity. I can do it if I do well.

27:52

And I can do it.

27:54

But when you talk to the world's top athletes, they all say that when they are on the field, they believe that they are the best in the world and they will win and they will do it. Yes, absolutely. So, at that time, people don't think much about confidence, overconfidence. Aggression and overconfidence help.

28:18

I am talking about absolute best. Like Ronaldo talks about it a lot, right? Yeah. That if you are on the field, whether you are young, old, new, it doesn't matter. If you don't enter the field believing and saying that loud that I am the best in the world, you can't even become that.

28:35

No, I can't.

28:36

So, this aggression, do you get that? I do feel that I am the best. That is why I want to play. I want to be the best as well. But always I say I'm the best. I'm a powerful and peaceful soul. And I'm scoring a lot of runs. I'm winning championships. That is what I feel. And that is why I play.

29:00

Has anyone ever distorted this image by looking at you from a bowler?

29:04

No.

29:05

That...

29:06

I just want to watch the ball.

29:10

I just watch the ball.

29:11

Have you ever been scared of a bowler? Have you ever been scared?

29:12

No.

29:15

What was that between you and Stark? Stark was trying to say something to me. What was he saying? That... I don't know what he said exactly, but I said, ball does come slow,

29:27

that's why I couldn't hit, otherwise it would have gone. So, that was my thought. If it had come a little faster, I would have hit that ball. So, I did something,

29:34

but the ball came a little slow. So, I thought if it had come faster, it would have gone faster. So, it's like you said it first, or he started it first? He said something, so I said it. Hmm.

29:45

And then that's a natural...

29:47

That's a good...

29:48

It's just a good healthy conversation, but I wanted to do well as well. That's usually. But as a confidence, do you see that as confidence? Or do you see this as, I'm slouchinging a little so that he also has a good mind and is on the level. Sometimes I do it, I do it on purpose. I want to get in.

30:12

In their head.

30:13

Yes.

30:13

So, sometimes this is my tactics as well. So, when I feel that I am taking it lightly or casually. I talk to myself to bring myself into the game. He brings me into the game. I say, no, I want to do it. Nice. Because you were 22 and Stag was 35 at that time.

30:42

So, a lot of people see it differently, right? And you know, Jokovic. You watch tennis, you know about these players. Jokovic, right?

30:51

Jokovic.

30:52

So, Jokovic was one of them. When he came to Tennis for the first time, Nadal and Federer, these two used to dominate Tennis. No one used to win. No one could beat them. People used to come and everyone used to lose.

31:07

And everyone used to say that I don't know how I won. They were senior players. Someone came and said in 19 years, I am the best player in the world. I will beat them. It's only about time. And he used to say that.

31:23

So, people in the world, newspapers, coaches, seniors, everyone writes that he is such an arrogant 19 year old kid. He is not respecting the big player, legendary player. What is he saying? I will defeat him. He is a worse player than me. I am a better player. All of that. Right? And Jokowicz used to say that I see this as self-belief. See the world as you want. Right. And actually, he became the player who defeated them.

31:49

And then he won more championships. Right? In certain tournament. And he became that. Do you see that sometimes you are showing self-belief, you are showing your game, but the world misunderstands you? I feel that…

32:03

And people misunderstand you. I feel that people have their own opinion. So, I respect that. But what I talk to myself is very important for me. How I see myself in the mirror. So, for me, that is very important.

32:20

Of course, people are going to have their opinion on every cricketer who's playing or on me. It's okay. It's okay. I can't change that. But does it ever feel like people misunderstand you? What is the biggest misunderstanding you have? I don't see who is saying what.

32:45

I don't see who is saying what. I don't even exist in it. Even if someone is saying something, what do I have to do with it? I don't even think about it. I just think about what I have to do tomorrow or today, which is going on right now. I live in the present. I don't know what the future holds.

33:07

But, isn't it that sometimes you do something and some people take it wrongly and then probably they question you later. I can't do anything about it. You can't control people but I can control myself. But does it bother you?

33:34

To be honest, sometimes it does impact you, some things, but then I understand, okay, it's okay.

33:35

It's okay.

33:40

Anything, anything can happen in your life.

33:41

No one is perfect.

33:46

So things, sometimes you do some mistakes. Sometimes someone else does it. I feel that forgiving someone is a very big skill. Not everyone can do it. It's very difficult. Or listening to what someone says is a big deal. Because you say it a lot. So I feel like I want to be like a sponge. I want to take it. to that is very important. Because who knows, if someone hears what you say, I try to listen to it.

34:26

Did you feel bad about what someone said? A lot of people have said a lot of things. That I can never do anything. I will be finished. I don't have a focus. He will play today, he won't play tomorrow.

34:37

This is this, that is that. Everyone used to say, what will he play? Does he think he is Sachin Tendulkar. There are many things, many people have said. You are saying it, what can you do? But why? What do you think? Why did you say that you will play today, not tomorrow?

34:53

This will end. There must be some reason why people say that. I don't know why people say that. I didn't have any excitement to know myself. I was like, when I was just thinking that when I came here, people treat me differently.

35:10

And in this world, it is very important to respect people. You should. Because when people have money, they take it for granted and say very wrong things to very good people or big people. So I have learned one thing from my family that you should respect those who are with you, who live with you, who are big, you should respect the elders. And I do that. So if an elder person says something to me,

35:48

I listen to it.

35:49

OK.

35:50

Has anyone close to you ever hurt you? By saying something? I know one thing, that wherever I am, I have had to do a lot to stay here. And only I know how I got here. And it's OK. I am okay with it.

36:13

I don't have any response. What is in my destiny, no one will take it from me. But do you think people are jealous of you because of this? I don't think about all these things. I don't need it. I am talking to you today.

36:28

I am very happy. I am telling you the truth. This moment is very important for me. The moment I am in, many people can't stay.

36:32

They keep thinking about the future.

36:33

I want to live today.

36:34

I don't know what will happen tomorrow. I don't know what will happen tomorrow. It's very important. The moment I am there, a lot of people can't stay there. They keep thinking about the future. I want to live in the present. I don't know what will happen tomorrow. I don't know anything. So, if I am there today, I try to enjoy the present.

36:55

I try to do it well. I give my 100%. I enjoy, laugh, joke.

37:00

All this is very important.

37:02

I try to do it here. I try. I'm not trying to hurt anyone. But this is a mentality and thought process. But there must be a point in life when someone says something and you feel humiliated. Yes, a lot of people have done it. A lot of people have been humiliated. What is one thing that you felt like, oh, he did it.

37:19

And then it didn't matter. It doesn't matter now. But at that time, I felt like, oh, it didn't matter. Now it doesn't matter. But at that time, I felt that it was an insult. When you are from such a family, when you are not so wealthy, then very normally people insult you and leave. What did someone do? Say anything.

37:38

I don't want to tell you now, what should I tell you? But it's okay. I mean, I always thought what I wanted to do. If someone says something, I do it. Sometimes I think, let's move ahead. We'll see what happens.

37:58

Many people said, your career will end. If you do this, your career will end. If you do that, your career will end. You'll never be able to play for India." But I tell myself... Like, if someone tells me,

38:08

you will never be able to play for India. That is the worst thing somebody tells me. Because all I wanted to play for India. So, I told myself that I will definitely play for India. No matter what, I will play for India. And you will see.

38:24

I told them. To be honest, I am very thankful that they did what they did. Because of those stuff, I was very into it. I only think that I have to do it. You got more focused. I got more focused.

38:40

I have done a lot of things like this. In future, I am sure that people will know that what I have been through. Because it was very easy to stay in the tent.

38:52

After that, my life became very difficult.

38:54

What?

38:55

That, that again sometime.

38:58

And then, this much past wounded struggle, whatever, 50 things through which you came out. When you take all this and go to the field, or combine all of that with self-belief, is that the confidence that you can talk to the world's biggest bowler directly by putting a mark on his eye and say, listen, you are bowling a slow ball. Things don't stay there.

39:24

But what gives you confidence then? Because sometimes you look at somebody... I practice very hard as well. And I try to play only by looking at the ball. It doesn't matter who the bowler is. No, it doesn't matter. Never.

39:36

Okay. Because I was reading that you started practicing on a concrete slab. I practiced a lot. You practiced 200 overs with the opponent. The ball comes up in Australia's pitch conditions. You tried to play the same ball. 200 overs you just kept practicing before your...

39:54

I practiced a lot before. I was trying to play bounces. So, I developed this shot. And I play uppercut. Bounce ball.

40:05

So, I have the option to make a run there.

40:07

Then India test debut. In the first match. I am telling you, I didn't sleep the whole night. I was trying to sleep at night. Again, like I said, I was thinking that I am playing, I am scoring, I am scoring a hundred.

40:24

So, I was visual that I was playing, scoring and scoring 100. I was visualizing that. That is the best time to visualize that I'm scoring 100. One night before the match. So, I was visualizing. I'm trying to go to bed, sleep. But the game is on in my mind.

40:41

I'm thinking that I have to play, travel have to travel for an hour, I have to stay fresh. Rest, recovery. I needed everything. But then I thought, you won't believe it, I made a tub of hot water, I'll go and sit there, maybe I'll sleep. I couldn't sleep, I tried a lot to sleep.

41:03

Then I accepted that I wasn't going to sleep, so I didn't sleep. I tried so hard to sleep. Then I accepted that I wasn't going to sleep. So, I didn't sleep. I went and played the match. I thought, Jaiswal, this feeling won't come again. This is the first feeling. And this is the feeling. Let's enjoy it. So, I started taking it that way.

41:22

I wanted to enjoy this feeling because you will debut only once. After that test cap, I didn't feel like that. Test cap was something else for me. It's the best moment. Like when I got that, I didn't, I'm speechless. I mean, that was the thing. I really speechless. But that was the thing.

41:46

I really do it. I will do it. I will do it. If I get an opportunity, I will do it. I was thinking this every time. Because I had found out that I was going to play. At least 10-15 days before. Is there a pre-match ritual? Just I sit quiet.

42:16

I mean, I will just sit and watch. What was going on before you just enter? What was going on in your mind? You must not have been feeling it. In my mind, I was thinking about who is going to bowl, how the wicket can be played, how can I play. All these things were in my mind.

42:34

It happened in 2-3 minutes.

42:35

Now?

42:36

That's it.

42:37

What to think? I have to go and play. And at what point does it happen that today… See, every player has a moment where he knows, the team knows, the coach knows, the audience knows that now it's not in their mind, now it's playing.

42:58

Like, his body has taken over. And you can see that flow, you can see that form. If you ask the player what was going on, you can see that form. Even the players can't replicate what was going on. They don't know. There's a point. Where you are blank. Where you are blank.

43:12

Where you are just enjoying. In the local language, they say, Balle has taken over. Now he is just saying, sit. What is that point for you? When does it happen that it's just a moment, that you have a flow?

43:25

It happens anytime for me. Anytime. You go and I get hit by the first ball, then I play. It's not like that for me. Actually, I enjoy it more when I get beaten up. Half the day I'm hitting a lot of fours.

43:44

Because sometimes the ball is going well and I play. I'm hitting a lot of fours in half a day.

43:49

I say, man, what a fun. I played well, man. The ball got a good beat. I played close. I got a good ball and got a beat. Because I felt that I had to play like this.

44:50

If you go, your body language changes with the environment. You have to adapt. Cricket is like that. Sometimes the game runs very slow, so you have to play like that. Sometimes you know that you have to play a little aggressive here, so your runs will be made. That day I was in the flow that day.

45:05

I knew from the start that... I told Gil that I'll go and play a bit. He said, play as you want. I started believing that the captain was telling me to play without any fear. I was trying to play without any fear that day. I made runs quickly as I played.

45:27

Because until they understood, I was a bit... You were already playing. So, I had a good flow. What was the feeling that you had before the game? I was thinking that I would play these shots and make a run. If they put the ball here, I will play the strokes.

45:46

And luckily, he bowled and I played.

45:53

Has it ever happened that you thought you would get a ball and it went in the wrong direction?

45:59

Yes, it has happened many times.

46:00

And it was a beat over.

46:01

No problem. Try again.

46:04

You don't get scared? No, no. He practices it wrong. No, we can learn from him. We can set him up. He will do it.

46:16

Sometimes I set up a bowler and I try to get him to do it in a way that I can play my shots. How does it happen? Do it them in a position where I can play my shots. How does it happen? Explain. Do it once in a while.

46:28

For example, if an off spinner is passing the ball to me in a test match, if the ball is spinning, I try to purposefully defend them. Even the loose ball. Because I want to take them.

46:44

And when I want to take them and when I want to take them, when they bring the field up. So, then I will start playing my shots. So, they feel that I am not playing now, that's when I start playing. Nice. And do you usually get beat?

46:56

I have played good shots for a long time. So, my belief and confidence keeps increasing with that. How can I play with the field? How did you get the name, Jazzball? I got the name Jazzball from the England series. When I was in England, in the England series in India.

47:19

Why did you get the name? Because I was playing like that at that time. I was hitting sixes to the spinners. I was playing sweep and reverse sweep.

47:30

I was enjoying that series.

47:34

People said that you were playing like you play baseball. So, it's like baseball and jazz ball. That's how it is. That's what people say. I said, okay. I'll go. I'll go. I'll try it is. People say that. But I say, okay. That's not it.

47:46

I try to hit it.

47:47

I keep trying.

47:49

Something or the other.

47:50

But Gavi, tell me one bowler which you feel like it's fun to hit. Basheer. I was thinking of playing shots with him if he does something to me.

48:06

And even Anderson. Anderson, when I was playing in Vizag, James Anderson. I was already batting at a good score. I made a double century already. Then he came and he told something to me.

48:21

What did he say?

48:23

He said something. He didn't say anything good, obviously. So, I came in. I was angry. Because of what he said, I took a wrong shot and I got out. So, I had made up my mind that I will hit him.

48:41

So, when I got the chance...

49:05

So, I swept him.

49:12

I had a lot of desire to hit him.

49:13

Nice.

49:17

Did he say that you got out because of that?

49:25

I threw my wicket. Because I thought, I'll hit it now. But that is what I was saying that you need to keep control on yourself. What the team demands. But that day I was like, if was determined to go all the way. I was thinking that if I go for him, I'll go completely. In the test game as well.

49:52

I was thinking that I'll go all the way. All the way. No, I was thinking that I'll go all the way. I was thinking that if I get a chance, I know I can make a big run in this over. I will grab the chance and opportunity.

50:12

I went for it.

50:14

Nice.

50:16

Tell me, what's the difference between Ranji and India?

50:21

I think there's a big difference.

50:24

What's the difference? Because all the players and intensity is the same. At that level. When you grow up. Because you leave India from there. Yes, I mean... There's a difference.

50:35

There's a difference in experience. And... I think playing in a different country is very different. But if you look at international cricketers and domestic cricketers, there is a slight difference in experience. Until and unless you come and play internationally,

50:58

the experience is different, the pace is different, the ball, the sense of the game is different. So, it takes a little time to adapt from there to here. The biggest difference, tell me, is that if a young player comes from a domestic team to an international team, what is the biggest challenge they face? It depends on the individual.

51:16

What is the biggest challenge you faced? I have always seen opportunities. So, I always thought that I want to go and express my game. When you play in front of a million people, you play in one of the best test series, you get a different feeling, a different experience. You play very good cricket here, the level is very good, but. You are playing cricket well here.

51:45

The level of cricket is good. But if you are playing in England, or against England, or against Australia, then it creates a vibe, an environment. So, how you take it, it's very individual. How you feel it, how you wanna...

52:00

Suppose, you are playing first ball in the series, in the test game. So, how you want to… Suppose you are playing, you are going and you are playing first ball in the series in the test game. So, how you look forward. I had an incident that when I played in Australia, Stark got me out on first few balls. So, I wanted to come out with those overs. So, how I prepare for that. So, these things happen in big series. So, people see what you do, how you play,

52:33

how you play, what is the approach. So, you learn very quickly. You don't have much time.

52:39

You...

52:43

You make the mistake as late as possible. But you took a bunch of words right now. Diet, skill, mental skill, discipline, strength. All these things, right? Everyone does these things, right? All of them do it. This is, if you say

53:08

top 100 players, means if 100% players, then 90% don't do it, 10% do it all. They reach 10% domestic cricket. Example, right? Now, the top 10,

53:20

the top 10% people, only top 1% of them make it to Team India.

53:26

Right?

53:26

Or probably top 0.1% reach Team India or top playing 11 or reach Team Squad. Right? What is the difference? It's your thinking. So, what's the difference?

53:41

What's the difference in thinking? The top playing 11, what happens is that they are special. And they make their place in the team. Versus the other players. Because I'm sure everyone knows how to play cricket.

53:55

Same cover drive, same pull shot, practicing for years. Everyone must have played. Everyone was focused on their diet, discipline. Sweating on the ground every morning. Everyone must have focused on diet, discipline. They must have worked hard and worked hard. Everyone must have done it.

54:08

Even after that, many times, there are players who are probably more talented than you. They must have played better than you. Still, they would not make it. And top 11, they make it separately. What difference? What do you think is the difference?

54:22

I think, dream and hunger. I think if you want to do something, and you do it with all your heart, then you will do it. No one can stop you. I know it's simple.

54:37

You should dream and run after them. And you should also think that I am achieving those dreams. Then you will do it. No matter what sport it is, you have to think like you are achieving it. So, that mentality should be there. That approach should be there.

54:59

That I can do it. One is to speak. One is to feel.. You feel it. It lives with you.

55:07

Cricket has lived with me.

55:09

So, have you felt that when you play, you see someone else playing and you feel the class, but there's no hunger. I think about what I do. You don't care about others. I care about how I play with my friends, how we win, how they do well, how we can do better as a team.

55:32

But my effort is to see how I can improve myself. I don't think about what they are doing. I think about how we can come together as a team, how we can win a match. Because there are ups and downs. It's like a wave. It will never be smooth. Life is like that. Sometimes it happens that at a certain age you learn something, then when you are a little older, you learn something, then you learn something.

55:58

So, change is a rule of the universe. So, I also change with time in a different way. What are you currently changing about yourself? Currently I'm changing about myself.

56:14

What are you working on?

56:16

I'm working on my fitness. I'm focusing on learning about my body. Because I feel like I have to get fitter. I have to work harder and have a better skill. So, I have to work on myself every day. How can I become a leader?

56:34

I want to be a captain. So, I want to captain a team. Fair. Has it ever happened that a senior... You're playing a game and a senior points out that you should focus on this. Yes, a lot. Has a senior ever out to you while you were playing that you should focus on this?

56:46

Yes, a lot.

56:47

Did a senior ever get angry on the field? Yes, a lot of people get angry. It's good, bad, right, wrong. It happens. Like I was on the short leg. And you must have seen the video. I jumped quickly.

57:01

It was a very funny incident. You missed the catch. No, I didn't miss the catch. I jumped early. It was a funny incident. You missed the catch. No, I didn't miss the catch. I jumped early. Jaddu was bowling. As soon as I jumped, I was like, oh my God.

57:12

I knew I was going to get a scolding. Everyone was laughing and I was scolding. I was laughing and I was enjoying it. It was a good incident. You were in a hurry. There was a catch too.

57:25

Which one?

57:26

Where, during Bumrah's time, I think... Jaspreet Bumrah's time, I think, he missed a catch. And he looked at you with disappointment. He was like, what a catch! What was that? Catch? I mean, I missed it.

57:40

I was standing far ahead. I couldn't see the ball properly. He was so fast even when he was bowling. So, I tried my 100% to get that catch. But it's okay. It's part of the game. So, it's okay. The catch is missed. I have also missed it. Many people have missed it.

57:56

So, I take it like that. And I want to improve as well. When I go and I practice more, I'll be in a better position. Do you ever get scolded on the catch?

58:10

Then it's okay. No problem.

58:12

I'll miss the catch.

58:14

How do you think Bumrah is as a bowler? He has that control. Whatever he wants, he can do it. Like, if he wants to bowl Yorker, he can bowl Yorker. If he wants to bowl in-swing, he can bowl in-swing.

58:29

With the same action, same pace.

58:39

So, it's his skill that he can bowl like that.

58:44

I don't feel...

58:48

Some are... I mean, others are better than normal. I don't think like that. I watch the ball. I don't think like who's the toughest.

58:53

No. I play like this only. I don't think like that. Tell me a match where you're this attitude that I don't think like that, I just watch the ball. Or this aggression attitude, because of that game might have gone in your favor. Like I told you about the game of UWL. I had this mindset. I wanted to make a difference. Because I was seeing that the wicket was so tight.

59:33

Any ball could have gone out. So, I wanted to put pressure on the bowler. So, I was thinking how I'll make him uncomfortable. I was thinking what I'll do. I'll walk and go, I will go back. I will do something.

59:47

I did everything that I felt. Sometimes I walked, sometimes I went back.

59:51

Sometimes I took shots, sometimes I left.

59:53

And then it turned around for you. Yeah, that helps me get in. Has the result of the game changed by sledging? Yes, sometimes it happens. like if someone says something, it goes in his brain. Fraction of second. It can disturb.

1:00:12

Give me an incident. Like Qantas. Qonstas.

1:00:18

What did he do?

1:00:20

The whole country was talking about him. What did he do? We were talking to him consistently. He was just playing. He was playing in his own way. You can see what he was trying to do. He already helps. Who sledges the most?

1:00:27

I have not been sledged by England.

1:00:28

What do they say?

1:00:29

Do they say it in the game or in their head?

1:00:30

They say everything that comes to their mind. They say it in the game. They say it in the game or in their mind? They say everything that comes to their mind. Has it worked for you something where you have entered someone's mind and seen where it has gone? It has not happened with me yet.

1:00:58

No one has been able to enter anyone's mind or no one has entered your mind? I have not tried it. What are the rules now? Now, like COCA, Code of Conduct rules, that if you can't get too engaged, you can get banned. Even on verbal? Yes, if you do too much, it's possible.

1:01:18

I try to do it in such a way that people don't know. Like, earlier, there were a lot of old matches. It still happens. People do it in a way that no one knows. But earlier, there were a lot of old matches. It still happens. People do it. For example, they say it in your ear before they leave. But you know it, but the other person doesn't. And sometimes it comes on the mic.

1:01:37

Like the players say something. Give me an example. Don't give me the name of the player. What do they say to you? What do they call you? Like, what do they call me? I don't know, they must have had a fight with someone and are blaming me. Fair, but what do they call me?

1:01:52

Don't take the name of the team, don't take the name of the player, because it can be a problem, right? But give me an example of how someone tries to get into your head. What do they call you? and just one bad shot can take the game away. I said something like that. Or of course, a bit abusive.

1:02:13

I tried to say something. I tried to say some wrong words. You abused him. Anywhere. Not only that. Suppose I was playing a match and I was playing well,

1:02:29

somebody called me. I can't use it.

1:02:33

Okay.

1:02:33

So, if I say normally, bloody villagers, he said that. So, it hit me a little. So, I also said a little. So I also... Spoke? I mean, I try to speak in a way that... I don't know if it's okay. But if someone speaks to me, I won't let them go. But if someone speaks, and you can't hear it in the mic, you say, it's on camera.

1:02:58

Is it problematic for you then? No, it's okay. It happens a lot in a match. What's wrong with it? People understand that. Aggression.

1:03:06

Yes.

1:03:07

But it's different in football. Abusing, fighting. It happens a little everywhere. This is the game. There's so much emotion involved. So, it's okay.

1:03:19

It's fun. Sometimes it's a lot of fun. And in your cricket team on their Indian cricket team? There are a lot of people.

1:03:36

Who are they? Can't you tell us?

1:03:40

Is their image not like that? No, it's not like that. There are many people who are aggressive. They say a lot of good words. How is Rohit Sharma as a captain? Amazing. How strict is he as a captain?

1:03:58

He's very, he's not strict. He's just amazing. He understands you. He's very caring as well. But I think his vision is very amazing. I think he's an amazing captain.

1:04:13

Do you ever take things personally in the game? Personally means what? I'll take two examples. Michael Jordan.

1:04:24

I read a lot about him. I really like him. Like, I'll take two examples. Michael Jordan.

1:04:29

He says that I read a lot about him.

1:04:33

He says that if someone cuts me and hits me with a basket,

1:04:37

for me, it's not about, it's a game.

1:04:39

It's personal.

1:04:43

I take it personally. It's very personal for me.

1:04:48

I mean, I'll show them, I'll it personally. It's very personal for me. Now I will hit. I mean, I will show them, I will show him. Same with, I think Jaspreet Bumrah talks about it as well. He takes it personally and make sure that then he has to take the wicket. So, it happens for you that someone does something, says something. Yes, like it happened to me. Yes, it happened once. So, you take it in the middle of the game?

1:05:09

Not in those games. I wait. I do wait. I wait for my time. It's okay. Somebody having a good day today is fine. One day my day will come. Then I will do what I want. You hold it personally. One day my day will come, then I will do what I want. Do you hold on to it? I mean, it stays in my mind. That if I get a chance, then I won't leave him.

1:05:34

If someone outs you, you remember it. It's not like that. I mean, it depends on the scenario that has happened with him. And yes, of course, if something like this happens, it does stay in my mind. But I will wait until I am... Like I know that even if I play those shots, even if I lose my wicket as well, but my team will be in a good position. So, I always wait until I know that now the situation is good

1:06:07

and I know where I am. Then if we got in those time, then I won't leave.

1:06:15

You talk about team a lot. Yeah, because that is only playing for the team, playing for my country that motivates me now. So, representing my country, playing for my team, playing for India that motivates. So, that is the only motivation I have that I want to go and make a difference for my team. But you have to play for yourself when you are in the team as well. Because if you don't play for yourself and if you don't have your best performance,

1:06:47

you won't be able to play for the team. I feel like when you think about the team, your performance is automatic. You don't even have to think. Explain. Like sometimes you feel that maybe should I go or should I not? But your team tells, if it requires, you should go. So, then I'll go.

1:07:06

So, then there is no double thought. I want to be very clear what I am doing. So, if I go and I feel like I wanna, if I feel like this is the requirement for my team that I should defence, so I will defence for two hours. I will try to defence for two hours. But if I require that I need to score on 20 ball 50, I will go and I will make sure that I will do that. So, that helps me to bring my best. Give me an example. There are situations where I was playing too much ball and I didn't play any shot in Australia. And there was a time where I was playing shots only. In any other games.

1:07:48

So, that gives me a lot of confidence. So, that gives me a lot of confidence. And I feel that when you think that the team needs this, if you start playing like that, your body range and everything changes.

1:08:04

Your thinking changes. And the team's trust in you also changes.

1:08:08

When you drop in the team or don't join a particular squad? No.

1:08:12

Why?

1:08:14

I feel like I should focus on me then. What I should do. It's okay. It's their decision, not my decision. But when you're playing so good, you're running, showing your performance everywhere, playing well in IPL, playing well in TES, and then you don't get selected in the T20.

1:08:34

I feel like it's not my decision. It's out of my control. So, it's okay. I should just focus on myself. And then I should develop my skill. So, what I can add? I started bowling more. I started doing different things, different shots.

1:08:54

So, that's how I improve my game again. So, there's no point in thinking about what I don't have control over. I have to think about how to improve what I have control over. So, I don't think about it. I don't know about tomorrow, who is thinking about it? I want to live in the present.

1:09:11

Whatever happens, will happen. Whatever is written in my fate, no one can take it from me. And whatever is not written, no one can give it to me. So, I want to live in the present and enjoy the present. That's why I will practice today. I will practice today, eat well, and I will be able to sleep.

1:09:26

I will sleep well. I will wake up and work hard again. So, there is no shortcut. So, you keep doing your work. Does anyone know what they are going to get?

1:09:35

No, right?

1:09:36

So, it's okay.

1:09:37

Keep going.

1:09:40

Okay, so, let me give you a scenario. You are playing a game. Test cricket. You are playing. Ford hit the ball in the last series. You are still playing.

1:09:54

You are out. You are out early. How do you handle that situation? Do you feel failure? Now, if you ask like this, when you score and get out,

1:10:07

it's very normal to think low. Very normal.

1:10:11

Then you start thinking, this can happen, that can happen. That is very normal to think. And now, how you will think? How I want to think? I want to think differently.

1:10:22

I want to go and talk to people who are experienced, who knows game better. What can I improve? How I can do? So, then I will go into those people who can actually help me developing things.

1:10:35

So, then I again start from scratch.

1:10:37

Did you take the name of any one person or any senior player? Any advice which has helped and worked in your favor? There are many such things. About the game? About the game, sometimes... Sachin sir has said something very good. Every bowler will give you little bit hint what they are going to bowl.

1:11:02

If you watch them very carefully. So, if you watch them very carefully. So, if you look at them closely, their body language, their field position, everything, you know what they are going to do. So, that was in my mind.

1:11:14

And I…

1:11:15

Give me an example. Field placement, body language, action, angles, which angle they are bowling, what angle they are using, what is their rhythm. So, all these things, these are the things which I want to capture. And you notice in… 100%. Yes, I do notice a lot.

1:11:36

A lot of time, yeah. A lot of time, ball comes how I think, but still I need to watch the ball. But of course, suppose there is field placement, how they change the field. So, all these things, small, small things you learn with time, with experience. That is what I was telling.

1:11:53

With experience, you learn. You need experience in the team.

1:11:57

Did someone else say something? Yes. Like Rahul Dravid sir told me, like when you bat, you get a lot of thoughts in your mind. A lot of thoughts come to your mind, that I should hit here, I should hit here, I should do this, I should do this. All these thoughts come.

1:12:18

So should I hit him here, should I hit him there? So I asked him, how do you bring your thoughts back? So, two things he says. He says only one thing, one thing somebody else says. He says, watch the ball. In the end, you are playing the ball. It will come.

1:12:36

So, if you tell yourself, watch the ball. So, all these thoughts goes away. So, that happens. That was a very good advice which I have gotten from him. It's very easy to say it, but atu, if you close your eyes and leave it, the ball will go over the stump.

1:13:07

The length ball. And that is very true. And the ball goes.

1:13:12

You see.

1:13:16

This helped? How did it help you? 100%. You get the idea, no?

1:13:20

Hmm.

1:13:23

When we went to Australia. So whenever we were playing, the ball that was a little behind, not the one in front, the length ball, the one that is a little stretched, that one, outside the off-stump,

1:13:34

the bounce is so good there that the ball goes straight up. I am not talking about the ball in front, I am talking about the ball in the back, the stretched length ball. But when we went to Australia, the bus left before you.

1:13:46

What was that?

1:13:48

I felt that our departure... Our arrival time was the departure time. So I got a little confused. Did you get scolded? Did they say something? No, sir.

1:14:04

I mean, sir told me. I said, sir, look, a genuine mistake happened, I am very sorry. He said, it's okay, but be aware, if you don't feel so, you talk. And Rohit bhai was very funny in those moments as well. Funny means? I mean, a little bit, a little bit. What did he say?

1:14:25

He didn't say anything. He said, go and apologize to them. So I said, yes, I'll go.

1:14:31

To whom?

1:14:32

Of course, to everyone.

1:14:33

Okay.

1:14:34

The whole team.

1:14:35

Because...

1:14:36

But you... You left the bus, right? You were not there.

1:14:39

Hmm...

1:14:40

I... I didn't wait for you. I just left you. Okay. I deserve it if I am late.

1:14:47

Fair.

1:14:48

It's okay.

1:14:49

And I accept the punishment as well. What punishment? I am saying, in general, if I get it, I should be on time. How can I... I should miss it. I should not miss it.

1:15:00

Does all this matter? Like, you did this by mistake or something else. Or on field, you showed a little anger.

1:15:10

No.

1:15:10

Does all this matter? Or does just the performance matter? Whether you are in Team India or not? Do all of these things also make a difference? I don't know. I don't know who takes you or what he does.

1:15:23

The thing I can control, I mean, I try my best to control what I can. Sometimes, unknowingly, mistakes happen. And it's okay. Like, no one does it on purpose. So, tell me, when you watch Indian players, Okay.

1:15:41

actually, not Indian, worldwide, I take four-five shots. Which one comes to mind first? Which player? Just by listening to the shot. In your mind. Okay. So, let's say, cover drive.

1:15:52

Virat bhaji.

1:15:54

Straight drive.

1:15:55

Sachin Chennukeswar.

1:15:58

Pull.

1:15:59

Rohit bhai.

1:16:00

Flick. I can't think of anyone like that.

1:16:03

I've already mentioned three people.

1:16:05

And square. I like my square cut. No one knows how to flick. I think Kale does it well. He enjoys flicking. And if you don't have to take the names of Indian players? Joe Root.

1:16:21

Straight?

1:16:24

Who hits straight? Crawley drives straight. I think, mid-off.

1:16:31

Okay. Do you watch?

1:16:32

I watch movies.

1:16:33

I watch romantic movies and army movies.

1:16:40

Both.

1:16:41

So, I can relate to my life. So, I enjoy watching both movies. Army and Romantics movies.

1:16:49

So, some of the very inspiring movies.

1:16:53

You watch romantic movies. Are you dating them?

1:16:56

No.

1:16:57

There are so many photos going viral about you. I don't know. They are going but I am not.

1:17:03

There is nothing like that.

1:17:04

What's ideal love for you? Ideal love? Who can be with you all the time? How will someone be with you all the time? Because you are travelling left, right, centre, all around the world. That I know if you want something, you will get it. If you want to be with someone, you will be with them no matter what. But it's so difficult to keep up with someone like you, specially you, I mean Indian players.

1:17:32

Of course, it's difficult.

1:17:33

The way we travel, the way life is, it's difficult, that is for sure. But I think as a sports person, we do of course, we live a lot of lonely life as well sometimes, like in personal life. Do you think it's a distraction? No, I don't think it's a distraction. I think if it is a very nice relationship, if you have a really genuine girl who really loves you and you love someone and you care about them, so I think it's a wonderful thing.

1:18:15

Like there should be good relationships that can make you keep going, make you learn different things, your views are different, learn from each other as well and look after each other. You need people, you need love to live a beautiful life as well. But time hai to build a relationship. That's what I am saying. If you love someone or you love someone, everything gets managed. Okay, tell me your schedule on a practice day or on a tour day. If you have enough time, if you have someone whom you look after or you care about them.

1:19:07

You'll remove time for them. You have enough time to remove 15 minutes for them as well in a day.

1:19:14

Guide me through your day.

1:19:15

But it's not a, I won't say like these are the wrong distractions. But I can say if you have a genuine relationship and you look after each other, it will make you better person and it can help you do amazing things as well in life. Walk me through your day, morning to night. Give me scenario what I am doing. Practice. Practice. You are practicing for a tournament?

1:19:45

So, I'll wake up early. If I'm not too busy, then 7.

1:19:53

Okay.

1:19:55

I wake up at 7 or 6.30. 6.30 to 7, I'll be awake. I do my routine, do my meditation. I rest at home a little bit. Then whatever is my practice schedule, or my gym, or my running,

1:20:13

or my practice, like skill wise, I do that. Then I come back, I stay at home. That's it. How many hours do you practice? It depends on how I want to practice.

1:20:27

Suppose I want to play a test, I will bat like session by session. Three sessions I want to bat. And if it's a T20 practice, I want to practice well in two hours. All the balls are playing. It's a Monday game. So, I want to play matches. I want to play different kind of scenarios in the nets. How I am playing. In test, if I am doing the preparation, same thing.

1:20:54

I want to make a scenario. I want to make wickets like those. And practice like the condition. What's the biggest difference between playing in nets and playing on the ground? I prepare for the game, of course. So, in nets, I am very focused. Everything is... But it's still a net. I think like it's a game. I want to prepare like a game. But still it's a net. So, I can try. I try things.

1:21:34

And in the game, I am sure I am going to do it. So, how I am going to do it? I will try in the nets. And I will go into the match. And I will do it. So, that is the difference I feel. You will try it in a different way there. If I don't try, I won't know if it will be easy for me to play there or not.

1:21:55

Or I will try the shots, practice, then I will go and play in the match. Walk me through your day. It depends where I am, what I am doing. Bombay normal day, off training day. Off training day. I just be at home mostly or I'll go there is few cafes which I love going, sitting and eating with my friends in the day. So, I usually do that or my family. So, whenever I'm free, usually I'm not. So, I'll just try to go and spend as much as time,

1:22:26

as much as I can spend with my family and be around them, play a lot of chess.

1:22:31

Do you play chess?

1:22:32

I love playing chess. I enjoy playing chess. So, I mostly play chess. A few friends came over and we play one tip one hand. So, that's also fun.

1:22:43

One tip one hand? Yes. Nice. Tell us about it.

1:22:46

We all play it. Now we can connect. We play it. It's fun.

1:22:53

What are the rules?

1:22:54

Rules?

1:22:55

Any rules. You are playing. You are defending. If you are hit directly, you are out. But look at my brother. There is a door and two walls. So, he defended.

1:23:08

I defended and I got out. My ball went directly to the wall. He said, I'm out. There's a gap between the wall. So, he defended and the ball went into the gap. He said, it's out on the wall, not the gap.

1:23:20

I said, this is a different rule. He said, yes, it's the same rule. We keep playing like this. It's fun. It's my actual fun. My dad was a left-arm fast bowler. He enjoys outing us.

1:23:38

At home?

1:23:39

At home. It's fun. You play in the hall at home? Yes. Or downstairs? We play wherever we can. I play just for fun. I want to enjoy it.

1:23:53

I try to bat as long as I can. It's like... You'll change only when you're out. There's no dot ball. So, I try to keep playing.

1:24:03

That's what we did.

1:24:05

How did we do it?

1:24:06

It's a test match. If you keep playing, you'll play all day. So, I told my brother to keep bowling all day. I didn't get out.

1:24:13

He kept bowling and I kept playing. So, no one could get a one-tap one-hand? No, because I, him and only three of us. I was playing and I wasn't getting out.

1:24:26

It was fun. I'm still enjoying it.

1:24:30

Nice. So, if a good player comes to our house, a friend, a brother, a neighbour, and you're playing in the streets, and you're playing one tip one hand, we'll say,

1:24:41

you're out on three dots. And you're out on the body as well. We had to out on this. There are rules for this. We have a rule that runs on touch. Not on touch.

1:24:52

There are two walls. If the ball goes from the bottom, there is a boundary. I make a century on that. I like that a lot. I made a century there. I celebrate it there.

1:25:03

I enjoy it so much.

1:25:04

Nice. What's the weirdest rule you've kept in gully cricket?

1:25:09

The weirdest rule? You make up a rule.

1:25:12

What's the weirdest rule?

1:25:13

Suppose...

1:25:17

How do I say? Usually, it's not out on the body. But we take that too sometimes. When it's too late, we say, the ball didn't hit the bat. But we do take it out sometimes. When it's too late, we say, the ball is already in the bat, it's not in the bat. So, LBW is a thing.

1:25:27

So, we do it like that.

1:25:28

Full body. Yes, if the ball hits the body, we take it out. We used to think that the back... That three balls were a dot. No, no, the back as well. If you hit it from behind and it hits the wall, it's a 5-run.

1:25:45

5-run?

1:25:46

If it's a random rule, you have to make it at home. And people try to come behind it and it hits the wall and they get out. But it's fun. It's a lot of fun. It's the best feeling. But you said that you stay at home. You don't go out, you don't pass time. I go out very rarely.

1:26:06

But if I stay on tours, I come home. So, I prefer spending a lot of time with my family. And then I take them only out. Or sometimes I go out. Not a lot. What's next for you as a cricketer? What's your next dream now?

1:26:24

Dream?

1:26:25

As an individual. Individual, I want to win the championship. I want to win the World Cup for my team, myself. So, that's my dream that I want to win the World Cup.

1:26:39

Next?

1:26:41

That's it.

1:26:43

Straight up, only one focus and nothing else in the mind.

1:26:47

What?

1:26:48

Here's a question. Probably the last question is. What's the biggest difference? Between a guy who is playing in the streets or on the ground today,

1:27:05

in his city, in his village. He is breaking, he is hitting there. He is playing so well. In that and you, who are playing for India. Yash SV of 11 years old, like when Yash SV was 11 years old,

1:27:20

he was playing on the ground.

1:27:22

In that and in this?

1:27:24

Yes, in that and this? Between that and what you are doing now. I think experience is which is a huge difference, I feel. Mentally, what has changed? I didn't change with time. It's not like I can't tell you, I can't say that I am the same as I was 11 years old. No.

1:27:46

I have learned a lot. I have gone through a lot. I have seen a lot of good and bad. I have seen a lot of people. I have seen good people. I have seen a little different people, but I am very happy that what I have done so far, I am very

1:28:12

proud of myself and I am very grateful that I have seen that life, I there is a lot in your life. So I'm very happy that I'm able to do what I do and I'm very thankful and I'm very grateful, blessed to have all this, what I have in my life. I have goals, I have things which I want to do and I'll be keep focusing on those things and I'll I want to enjoy with those thoughts as well and I wanna just live the moment. Are you satisfied? But I want to enjoy every single moment in my life. That is what I think. I want to be in present. I'm not satisfied yet, but I'm very proud of me what I did so far and what I want to do in my life.

1:29:13

If you have to pick one thing, what are you most proud of? About myself. What are you most proud of?

1:29:29

That I'm a very good human being. I'm a very good son. And I have a beautiful family. I have what I have. Everything. Everything is important for me.

1:29:46

You said you're a beautiful son. You're an amazing son. Yes.

1:29:47

What makes you think so? Because I love my parents. I love my family. I look after them. I look after my mom and dad, my family. And there's a lot of love that I'm very happy that I have been loved like that. Like people have loved me, my fans loved me. And all the people who blessed me to do well and even if I can do one person to make them happy,

1:30:16

I am feeling very proud. Like if I can play well and people can just be happy, seeing me happy and enjoy for a moment, if I give them happiness, it's just incredible thing. It's a skill and I'm very blessed that I could do that. And suppose somebody is in the hospital and I'm playing a game and for a moment he forgets everything. This is what I have seen.

1:30:42

And suppose somebody is wearing my t-shirt and saying saying come on Yash, come on do it. So these are things are very precious people love. So that gives me goosebumps, that gives me motivation, that gives me strength also to go and do it. actually very, very happy about what you just said because you said that you're proud that you're a loving son way before you said that you are an excellent player. I mean both of them are great and incredible big things but that talks a lot about you. That you're way more proud about you as a son and then there's a lot more hunger for you remaining. Yes, 100%. Sometimes people motivate me that

1:31:36

somebody in the village or anywhere must be watching me and if they think I can do it then they can do it as well. If you don't have anything still you can do it if you have dreams. If you have belief and dreams you will achieve it. You should dream. Dream, chase your dream and visualize your dream that you are achieving it. So even anybody is hearing me anywhere in the world so if they believe that there is nothing that they

1:32:05

can achieve and there is everything which they feel okay maybe nahi hoga yaar, it can't happen, we don't have this. I'll tell you just keep believing that it will happen and will happen. So that is what I want to say that ki aapko to do it, you can do it. Just keep doing it.

1:32:26

Keep doing it.

1:32:28

And visualize it.

1:32:29

Think before you sleep.

1:32:31

You can do it anytime. It will happen automatically.

1:32:34

Of course, it will happen. If you have belief, you have to do it.

1:32:37

And there is something magical about it, right? When you get a visual in your mind, that you want this and if it comes again and again, it breaks. I was meditating with ma'am. So, she told me, you see yourself that you are achieving your goals like torch is flashing you. So that I'm visualizing that torch light is on me and my goal is on the thing like I'm scoring a hundred and I'm seeing myself on in those torch light. So my focus gets narrow. So when you say that you actually see that. Yeah. So it is. Yes. And you see it. So that is how it works. How you think.

1:33:26

And the light of the torch, which is probably on the wall, in that light, you can see your dream. I close my eyes and I can actually see it. So that flash, which the light of the torch brings you more closer towards the goal. So, these things, if you learn or if you hear all these things, it gives you a lot of things, I think. You do this every day? Means I try to. I do like... I have my own imaginary things.

1:34:00

So, whatever I can think of, I try to convert whatever I can think of. Who is one cricketer who you absolutely love? Who you see as God or like idol? I mean, my idol... It was Sachin Tendulkar sir. So, I always look up to him since I'm young.
