Cockatoo runs its own transcription engine rather than reselling third-party APIs.
The engine was built in-house by a team led by a former machine learning engineer from American Express and EnsoData. No middleman, no per-minute markup.
Cockatoo maintains multiple transcription modes and versions, each optimized for different accuracy and speed trade-offs. The engine is versioned so improvements ship without breaking existing workflows.
Usage mirrors ChatGPT and Claude paid plans: practically unlimited default modes plus a weekly budget for the highest-accuracy modes, shown in Settings. Unlimited modes remain available when the budget is hit.
Long-term storage is in the US. Data is retained while your account is active and removed on account or file deletion.
